She says she has been attacked by some military and administrative employees (names not specified). Relation of money quantities that cashiers at Pagaduria de hacienda in Arizpe have made to cashiers at Pagaduria de hacienda in Mexico City. Summary
Documents relate to charging diesmos by padre doctrinero of Presas del Rey, viceroy requests investigation as town charter exempt diesmos when town founded. Citizens and officials relate historical, ethnographical details of towns. Visitador Palacios imposes diesmos, copy of document issued by Santianer setting and directing payment of diesmos by all in Santander province under penalty of jail and excommunication if not obeyed. List with stated amounts to be paid by each citizen. Also, a list of Arancel de Curato issued by bishop. Capitan Blanco documents differences of diesmos in province complaining of excesses by some priests, Blanco called to northern frontier to stop Indian incursions and investigation comes to a halt. Fiscal mayor requests reimbursement of expenses incurred by Blanco which are approved by viceroy. (A. Dell'acqua, September 1987)

Documents relating to Pedro Jose Gualahuizes' rebel and his band who have been assaulting ranches, stage coaches, and small towns, killing various men escaping to mountains with properties and stock. Force formed to capture band to no avail. Rebels use mission of San Cristobal de los gualahuises for protection. Fray Barragan informs viceroy of impossibility to proselytize Indians in mission. Fiscal sends letter to viceroy indicating plans to inprison, resettle and disperse Indians in different areas to be carried by governor of Nuevo Leon and Santander, viceroy approves proyect but bishop of Nuevo Leon desires mission of San Cristobal to continue in same area guided by two friars who should try to indoctrinate Indians. Letters to viceroy accusing provincial of Zacatecas of stealing sinodos and demanding specific amounts of money from priests under his supervision leaving friars without their sustenance and not enough monies for care of churches, some priests incurred debts with outsiders who made judicial demands about payments. same provincial is accused of stealing and melting church utensils made of gold and silver substituting them with ones of lesser value. Investigation carried by comandante general de Provincias Internas on all missions following directive of king to remedy abuses. Secularization of missions and doctrines in Santander is carried out except the mission of San Cristobal de los gualahuises where only the priest is changed but mission is transferred to diocese of Nuevo Leon. Within body of documents there is information about Indian unrest due to encroachment of lads by Spaniards, pacification force is sent but withdraws, members of force are accused of cowardice. An informe about census of Indian nations under jurisdiction of each mission is attached with accounts of depredations and killings by Indian Pedro Jose and his band. Summary
Informes concerning Spanish-Indian relations in the northern Provincias Internas. Provides excellent description of state of affairs. Included are estimates of number of enemy Indians, and enumerations of presidial troops and auxiliaries. Good discussion of presidial needs for defense (E.g. Rivera), need to augment soldiers, change location of presidios, remove women and children to safer regions. Also included are freight lists of goods for Indian campaigns and fiscal documents concerning expenses incurred during campaigns. (J. Carpenter, June 1987)
