Summary
Relays Buenavista presidio commandant Lumbrera's warning impending rebellion of Yaquis Allied with Pimas. States Pimas Altos Caborca mission acting in bad faith, waiting for chance to return to old way of life. Such unrest hinders war against Apaches, because Pimas Altos best auxiliary troops. Despite need to campaign against Apaches, feels Altar presidio must be maintained full strength to observe restless Pimas, guard Cieneguilla placers. Apparently no manpower to spare from Pitic, Buenavista presidios, because of necessity guarding port Guaymas (20 man detachment there). Fusileros de Montana not mounted, compania volante reforming. Sonoran forces evidently occupied entirely with internal matters, unable to assist Apache campaign. (T. Sheridan, 1976)
