A criminal action brought against the Alcalde of la Alameda Jose Petronilo Gutierres for having mistreated and jailed the Indian governor of Sandia. The governor had refused to send five men to serve in a detachment guarding the houses of the Alcalde's mother-in-law and his lieutenant Juan Gonsales. Gutierres made a labor draft every eight days to serve in two detachments. The Alcalde was also accused of speaking out against the Superior government. The asesor exonerated Gutierres of any charges because of lack of evidence, the insolence of the Indian governor of Sandia, and an order from Jose Maria de Arce to place detachments at isolated points on the frontier of his jurisdiction to counter Navajo raids.
