Shows our crew at work on the boat. Started for Nyanza, a point 60 kilo. above Kigoma - got off about 11:00 and the skipper could not get out of the bay. We lay in a cove all afternoon....We did not succeed in getting out of the bay and anchored for most of the day at the north edge of the bay....At sundown we put out - the natives singing and rowing. We sailed until about 2:00 am, when we anchored in a small bay. [Shantz travel journal, Feb. 23, 1920]
