Tueros informs of material conditions of his provincia Coahuila --fertility of land, livestock, troops, enemies, and provisions for defense. Notes that military salaries inadequate for care of horses, transport of provisions for campaigns, clothing. Remarks that conditions are miserable for such honorable obligations. Hostile enemies are Apache Mescaleros although Lipanes have also enriching companies with apt officials; augment four companies to 120 men each; and provide good salaries. (J. Hiller, may 1989)

Summary
Around midnight on August 31, 1805, steady rain breaches Arroyo, floods Croix. Casas moves entire population first to Piedras, then to Forlon (between Llera, Escandon), only defensible high-ground in area. Speaks of three years of extraordinary dryness, one of excessive rain. paperwork to make move permanent, report on natural resources of Forlon. Calleja objects that settling in Forlon leaves ranches near old Croix sin auxilios espirituales, ni temporales, open to attack by Tamaulipos; requires Villa be reestablished at Piedras, but promises to allow new Villa at Forlon if more than 30 people want to stay. Much debate of relative merits, disadvantages of each site; detailed geographic description of Forlon to demonstrate superiority to Piedras, signed by many vecinos. Order given to move everyone to Piedras, but some refuse to leave Forlon. All religious effects moved back to Piedras. Yturbe gives official threat that anyone remaining in Forlon will be rigorously prosecuted (may - F.193). Inventory of all church property (f.203). Garcia de Leon describes in detail what layout of new Villa should be (f.207). Map of nueba Villa de la Purissima Concepcion de Croix; key lists residents of each lot, proportions of lots, streets, Plazas (f.210). Reports of beginning of discord among Indians (Nayares and Tobosos?), that Spanish hope to exploit. F.217 mentions Indians of San Francisco de Ocotan turning against those at Coionqui. F.224 Torre complains of shortage of guns at Guadalupe. Ff.237-238 Flores recruiting Indian archers from pueblos in Colotan, Nueva Vizcaya, sending them to Naiarit to be trained for military. F.241 is further mention of Cruz as interpreter of Cora, tecualme, Mexicana, castellana. F.242 lists number of cows, mules, pigs, axes, machetes taken in conquest of Guanimota. Mentions questioning Canarit (chief) in Cora, Mexicana, castellana, and he responding in all three. F.246 Cruz gives Aumada 20 pesos for easter, asking pardon for Indian prisoners (interesting document). (A. Dean, February 1990)

Summary
Granados rants again about turning ferocious Seris from wolves into lambs, teaching them art of humanity, creating incorruptible Christian society, asks for musical instruments to polish of their civility. Asks also that land, livestock be granted Seris. Treasury approves giving parcels of irrigated land, quibbles over cost of other request, approves land grants for Bacoachi Apaches. Martinez writes list of purchases made with money allocated by Revilla Gigedo. Mention of chahuis epidemic that destroys bean, wheat crops before ripening. Mention of selection of auxiliaries, arrival of six Tiburones. Much ado about lack of musical instruments; finally Ugarte y Loyola buys and sends some. (A. Dean, may, 1989)

Summary
Francisco and six families of Seris returned to Pitic on August 30, looking very hungry. Speaks of rations of grain, meat. Mentions agreement made when Seris first conceded peace in 1784. Tiburones, Tepocas embracing christianity, should be used as examples for Seris. Discussion of process for religious education for Young, older Indians. Lists Seris in reduccion, amount of grain each receives weekly Chepillo declared guilty (charge unclear) by entire Seri nation, is to be deported. Speaks of purchase of livestock for Seris. (A. Summary
Military chaplain has been administering sacraments to Seris in absence of real missionary, but one is needed soon at Pitic. Description of sacraments. now that mission San Ignacio de Onavas has been established for Seris, reduccion should begin in earnest to rid them of their depraved customs. Martinez is named missionary, plans to start baptisms, formal services, breeding livestock at mission to feed Seris, building Adobe houses for them, clothing them properly. Claims Seris readily accept christianity. Mentions fiscal matters of mission, transactions with treasury. (A. Dean, may 1989)
