Concerns military problems caused by a force of rebels made up of Apostate Indians and renegades menacing Valle de San Bartholome; includes many interesting details on rebels use of spies; size and organization of their forces (more than 1700 men); ethnic composition and origins of members of their group; their leader (Calaxtrin);their tactics and strategy; their capture and conversion of other Tarahumar Indians, including women; their arms and equipment; importance of criminals in the group; their use of Peyote to persuade captives to join rebellion; rebel bases in mountains; their use of captured livestock for meat; their commerce with barbarian Indians for arrows and hides; use of auxiliaries against rebels; population losses resulting from rebel raids; an exploration of rebels home in San Francisco mountains by balenzeula; recent presidio transfers and resulting strategic situation; recognition that rebel Tarahumaras are a serious threat to province; and viceroy's insistence on importance of new presidio line. Summary
Fayni describes economy of Valle de San Bartholome as based on haciendas, land use, and cattle herds and how San Bartholome supplies Parral and Chiguagua with fruits of harvest. Reports Indian thefts and murders in San Bartholome due to lack of defense. Relates how war has wasted money, broken families, caused misery. Suggests military protection be provided for satellite pueblos of Parral. Oxinaga asserts that even if Oconor's efforts produce good results, if he does not follow orders he should not be paid for his rank. Oxinaga submits letter recounting Apache attacks repelled with limited success due to disadvantage of weapons, horses and provisions. Asks for military protection from Indian raids. Documents listing rights and obligations to citizens of Presas del Rey upon foundation of Villa by capitan de la Serna. Establishment of church, garrison, and other official offices. Requests by Serna to abolish residency, judgeship and sentencing surety as few people know him, he also requests title of capitan to be given to him as founder and teniente to his son Estevan, titles are approved. Priests requests money for sinodos and traveling expenses. Conde de la Sierra Gorda sends city charter, maps, titles of Solares to build houses viceroy frees Villa for Ten years payment of primicias to church. Other documents relate disturbances in town due to absence of priest. Document refers to historical event about sinodos when churches were secularized in 1734 by request of provincial of Zacatecas. Summary
Letter from Alderete to viceroy mentions sending diario of presidial activities from July 18, 1768 to February 5, 1769 but diary not included. Instead, diary recounts activities from depredations committed by enemy Indians, problems with horses, means of livelihood, battles with Indians, routine military activities, and pursuit of specific Indian perpetrators.
