The commanders of the presidios along the route of Vial report in short letters about his arrival and the assistance they gave him in money and supplies. Nueva orleans, San Antonio de Bexar, atakapas, Mexico. September 13, 1774, January 10, 1776. 42p. Letters. Originals, copies.
Summary
In a letter to Bucarelli y Ursua the governor of Louisiana expresses his interest in buying mules and cattle in Texas, but his offer is rejected because there are explicit royal orders that prohibit any trade through that frontier. Regardless of this refusal he sends a military officer with new proposals and even with a load of goods to trade. A list of these goods --that were confiscated in San Antonio de Bexar-- is given. After a discussion of the implications of establishing such a trade the authorities decide to send back to Luisiana the messengers with the goods. (A. Nielsen, November 1989)
