Virreynato communicates to Rengel that he must pay one-third of Fages' salary. Due to war with Indians it is not opportune time to transfer funds from Calo to Beregana. Bandos sent reiterating borders of provinces (not included). Response to Rengel's letter about deserter Aduna and payment of debt. Rengel communicates to virreynato that he has published several bandos in comandancia regarding revocation of funds of Rentas vitalicias. Requests further information and maps from expedition of 1783 into California. Requests that gunpowder be sent to Sonora due to low supply, and to avoid sending it in leaky containers. (D. J. Invention of armor by teniente Bertucat and request to king to have licence to construct such armor. Autos against Capitancillo norteno Ramirez. Rebel Taraname Jose Luis sent to Havana's prison to avoid more rebellions in Texas. Civil suit by inhabitants of Villa Nombre de Dios to keep such village under jurisdiction of viceroy instead of Provincias Internas. Documents of correspondence between Croix, viceroy, and other officials regarding different issues of life within Provincias Internas of which the important documents refer to requests of provincial of Durango for payment of salaries to priests in presidios of Provincias Internas. Request for fine gunpowder for presidios in Sonora. Request by Bohorquez to clarification of his loss of employment after 32 years of service without cause. Arrival of guns to Veracruz and transportation of supplies to presidios in Californias. criminal causes against Dominguez for murder, autos against marquez, Aquino and maria Rita de fuente accused of highway robberies and being infieles and homicidas, two Indian women for murder and also, accussations of contraband in Nachitoches by a settler of area. Military process against three soldiers from Loreto for having raped two Young girls. Request of Montepio military for widows by Croix. Military promotions, transfers and deaths; taxes taken from military personnel for prevendas and mitras of the church in indias. Summary
Serna responds to virrey's order commenting on several points regarding Indian campaigns and relations, promising completion of each. says Indians use mostly bow and arrow. Description of their construction and use. Concerns Indians' method of attack. says need more money for hatchets and other tools for opening paths. Company also in need of priest and surgeon to maintain soldiers' minds and bodies. Serna informs Castro of capture of desertors. Serna requests permission to search for doctor to cure continuing illness. Guerra appointed captain of company. Includes letter regarding desertors and requesting instructions for action against them. Also contains letter from priest saying Serna has not presented himself for confession and seems unable to. Includes introductions to monthly reports on developments and conditions of company. Capellan transfers to Voca de Leones. Description of campaigns, number of horses and men sent and returned. Tells Castro that conde requested he go to Santander to perform certain duties. Sent 4 men to Bahia. Gives awards to several soldiers. says no one on mission to Texas spoke Lipan. Returns horse lost by Serna during round- up. Informed of Indians who stole clothes and horses of several men going to slaughter. Requests replacements from commander of Punta for five soldiers who deserted. Vidal writes apologizing for error made during Diaz' absence. Vidal sends Lipan to San Carlos with escort. Sacrificing these men for justice leaves severe shortage of soldiers. Diaz takes detachment to Bahia to investigate large Indian influx. (M. Dannemiller, September 1988)
