Summary of proceedings in criminal case against capitan Nicolas Ortiz who did not follow Alcalde mayor's orders regarding rights and usage of water for irrigation. Includes auto naming special judges for question of water usage and testimonies against Ortiz for cutting off water to neighboring fields as well as verbal abuse and physical threats to judges and others. Ortiz is sentenced to jail for disobeying Alcalde's orders, mistreating his emissaries, failing to appear before Alcalde and resisting arrest. (Raul Saba) (1980)

Summary
Maria de Benabides accuses Antonia de Moraga of slander; and Josepha Martin with assault, causing injury to her face, during an altercation that also involved Moraga and Xptobal Martin, both the parents of Josepha. The Alcalde mayor attempts to arrest them, but Moraga and Xptobal resist and insult the Alcalde, making derogatory remarks about his Indian race. He eventually subdues them and they are imprisoned. Pesos, and the costs of the suit, fourteen pesos. The fine and costs are paid, and the prisoners are released. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

Summary
Dirucaca, an Indian of Pecuries, is accused of multiple her daughters; of practicing witchcraft, reputedly involving the deaths of a number of persons, including some women who rejected his illicit advances; of inciting the natives of his town to ignore and defy the teachings of the Christian priests. There is some convincing evidence against him, and he is imprisoned. But, then, it is discovered that he knows the location of a silver mine. In exchange for showing the Spanish authorities the site of the mine, the charges against dirucaca are dropped and he is released; with the stipulations that he can no longer reside in Pecuries, and that he pay the procedural costs of the suit against him; (twenty one pesos). Summary
The performance of Cuerbo y Valdes during his term as governor of Nueva Mexico is examined by the viceroy, the duque de Linares. Testimony from various sources is considered; and the suit between Valdes and the presidial soldiers, and between Valdes and the marques de la Penuela is examined. The viceroy finds the soldiers and the marques culpable; and he orders the marques to refund Valdes, within one month, considerable amounts of money and merchandise. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)
