Summary
Document presents daily account of troop movement and locations and activities of Indians in area. Ordered to enter from south, began exploration of area. Found underpopulated Rancheria. Provides description of area where Indians washed and collected water. Found other rancherias with extreme hunger due to limited squash and other vegetables to provide nutrients needed for the work and extensive walking done by Indians. At one Rancheria, Indian guard yells warning of advancing troops causing Indians and horses to flee. Describes bloody wars to take property from Indians outside San Marcos. says conditions calm in Iglesias. As troops arrived in new places they were named and reported to conde. This informe sent to Castro. (M. Dannemiller October 1988)

Concerns activities of segunda compania. Describes campaigns in area and number of men and horses sent. Letters acknowledge receipt and completion of orders sent. Bustamente tells of recent Indian vs. Indian wars. Requests orders for behavior assuming loyal frienship with Spanish. Concerns company of uniforms, armament, and tack distributed to soldier describes arrival of one desertor with two horses from primera compania. With Castros permission, Bustamente sent detachment to Rio Grande to verify conditions and assist if necessary. Due to stampede, 300 horses lost. Describes purchases made at Saltillo's annual fair for troops and families. says funds insufficient. Desperately need salaries of officials and sargeants. Sends party to search for desertor and lost horses. Includes list of horses and mules seized from Indians. Tired troops request help from primera compania to continue battle in San Sabbas. Assisted company in Revilla to track Apaches after raid and kidnapping at Lopez' ranch. Relates theft and murder by Indians. Concerns letter from Galvez regarding three soldiers needing to See surgeon in Monclova. Order to have 60 men equipped for campaign. Wants to have meat available for trip but will have Pinole and Vizcocho. Advises all ranches between Arroyo Blance and Yglesias to beware of possible Indian raids. Concerns improper conduct of desertor and his debt to company. Related incident in which one soldier, cleaning his gun, accidentally shoots himself and another soldier and later is imprisoned for it. A Series of letters from three authors addressed to Ugalde that discuss various matters concerning the tercera compania volante and the assigning of horses to soldiers, receipt of discharge notices, rehabilitation of Puga from earlier injuries, purchase of corn, Gonzales de Paredes' request for discharge for medical reasons, transmission of documents among different companies, Puga's request for leave and transportation to Llena to handle affairs of recently defunct Father, Puga's request that his sons be assigned to the segunda compania volante, receipt of orders to retire Flores, efforts to recruit a particular Mason who is unfortunately deeply indebted to his company. A Series of letters primarily from Lacomba to Ugalde but also from others concerning matters affecting the tercera compania record and invalid status of Paredes and Buedo, requests to leave the company for a meeting, requests to fill vacancies, transfer of money to Ugalde, inquiries into arrival and late arrival of documents, clemency for 2 deserters, unfounded rumors of Indian attacks, the number of horses and mules at his disposal, Ugaldes disposition to expel all those who seek retirement before an imminent campaign, the difficulty in conducting a census among a hostile Indian population, Puga's desire to have his two sons serve in the adjoining companies, a dubious Tale of a Lipanes Indian attack told to him, reports of armament inventory, adverse affect of Weather on agricultural production in his area, prosecution of deserters, orders permitting the virrey special powers, use of a civilian at a military outpost in a mission, debts owed among the troops, capture of two Indians and transfer to Ugalde, conflict between two soldiers that had been quelled, promotions of Errera, Soto, and Cossio and the resulting vacancies and salary raises. Series of eleven letters from Lacumba to Ugalde that cover: the disciplinary problem with Elozua, correspondence missing in transit, the logistics of a food shipment, the transmitting of troops, the unsatisfactory status of his troops, explains the delay in handing over two captured Indians and the intervention of Fray Gonzales, the request to fill two sergeanto vacancies, acknowledgement of the receipt of military instructions, and a letter and a relacion discussing the status of 10 soldiers in need of retirement for reasons of age, health, and disciplinary problems.
