Philip III orders Don Pedro de Acuna, governor and captain general of the Philippines, to assist Sebastian Viscaino who has been ordered to settle the harbor of Monterey. The importance of this document lies in its account by Philip III of the expedition on which Sebastian Viscaino, an experienced navigator, discovered Monterey and explored the coast in between on order of Don Luis de Velasco, Former viceroy of New Spain - description of native inhabitants of the coast and their mention of gold.
