Herrera rejects expense receipts that Loredo submits for escorting Indian chain-gang from Arispe via Guadalaxara to Mexico; Loredo contests validity of refusal with auditor de guerra's support; royal decree reveals even military petitions must be on official paper with the sello segundo which has Loredo redoing his expense receipts; Perez requests payment for his companies' services in escorting Loredo and prisoners from Guadalaxara to Mexico (Zapotlan); validity of this request is rejected on the grounds that the troop is in the service of his majesty the king and need not be paid extra; after Ten years of debate over the issue between the real hacienda, Loredo and the various viceroys, the king issues a royal decree stating that troops are to be paid 16 pesos for every 80 leagues covered. Concerns royal appointment of Rouset as bishop of Sonora; papel replaces Martinez Galisonga; papel bulls delayed in arriving; Rouset requests 5,000 peso stipend be released to him for journey to and installation at Arispe, June 1796; Nava as com. Refuses until royal warrant is submitted to him; real hacienda refuses on the same grounds; Rouset sends copies of letters to real hacienda concerning granted requests of the same nature for Bustamante y Bustillo and Candamo; Rouset finally beseeches Branciforte directly which brings about the monies being released in August of 1797; letter from archbishop to Branciforte outlining royal decree stipend amounts. Summary
Autos concerning the excommunication of administrator Valiente for avoiding payment of diezmos. Letter from Michoacan to virrey accusing Valiente of avoiding payment. jueces hacedores of Valladolid and Guadalaxara claim that the Diezmos are for their own churches. Valiente request advice from fiscal Mangino in the matter of the diezmos and the excommunication. Mangino informs virrey of the charges against Valiente and requests his judgment. Accounting relacion of payments made by several administrators from the mission of California since 1743 till 1768, with the amounts of payment. Letter from bishop of Guadalaxara claiming that the diezmos from Valiente belong to his church, that those haciendas were exempt from paying Diezmos when administered by Jesuits. (D. Summary
Calzada accuses bishop Llanos of mishandling the properties of deceased bishop Bustamante. In several letters to the virrey, Calzada trys to demonstrate that Llanos is making the matters difficult for him and he wants the virrey to remove Llanos. Llanos is commissioned by the virrey to investigate whether there was fraud in Bustamente's administration of Diezmos. Fiscales from the royal hacienda defend bishop Llanos from the attacks of Calzada. Llanos Dies and the investigation of fraud stops until it is turned over to the fiscales who slow down the investigation, avoid accusations of fraud, and try to mediate. (D. Bautista, January 1990)
