Summary
Periodic reports from leaders of destacamentos relating new events; most reports say nothing was happening. Copy of itinerary of one Destacamento listing pueblos and haciendas they were to visit from Fresnillo to Durango, and distances in Leguas. Complaints that regimiento spent more money because of high cost of maiz and maintenance of horses. Lasso de Vega is unable to make March to Chihuahua because he has too few horses and money. Posada reports illness of Montante in one report, and later says he is inutil para el real cervicio. (D. Marksz, February 1987)

Documents listing rights and obligations to citizens of Presas del Rey upon foundation of Villa by capitan de la Serna. Establishment of church, garrison, and other official offices. Requests by Serna to abolish residency, judgeship and sentencing surety as few people know him, he also requests title of capitan to be given to him as founder and teniente to his son Estevan, titles are approved. Priests requests money for sinodos and traveling expenses. Conde de la Sierra Gorda sends city charter, maps, titles of Solares to build houses viceroy frees Villa for Ten years payment of primicias to church. Other documents relate disturbances in town due to absence of priest. Document refers to historical event about sinodos when churches were secularized in 1734 by request of provincial of Zacatecas. Census of inhabitants with all their belongings including animals. Documents with measurements of land grants given to each family. (A. Dell'acqua, sept.1987)

Documents relate to charging diesmos by padre doctrinero of Presas del Rey, viceroy requests investigation as town charter exempt diesmos when town founded. Citizens and officials relate historical, ethnographical details of towns. Visitador Palacios imposes diesmos, copy of document issued by Santianer setting and directing payment of diesmos by all in Santander province under penalty of jail and excommunication if not obeyed. List with stated amounts to be paid by each citizen. Also, a list of Arancel de Curato issued by bishop. Capitan Blanco documents differences of diesmos in province complaining of excesses by some priests, Blanco called to northern frontier to stop Indian incursions and investigation comes to a halt. Fiscal mayor requests reimbursement of expenses incurred by Blanco which are approved by viceroy. (A. Dell'acqua, September 1987)

Documents relating to Pedro Jose Gualahuizes' rebel and his band who have been assaulting ranches, stage coaches, and small towns, killing various men escaping to mountains with properties and stock. Force formed to capture band to no avail. Rebels use mission of San Cristobal de los gualahuises for protection. Fray Barragan informs viceroy of impossibility to proselytize Indians in mission. Fiscal sends letter to viceroy indicating plans to inprison, resettle and disperse Indians in different areas to be carried by governor of Nuevo Leon and Santander, viceroy approves proyect but bishop of Nuevo Leon desires mission of San Cristobal to continue in same area guided by two friars who should try to indoctrinate Indians.
