Pimas Altas who wish to reduce themselves enlist Valdez as intermediary. Pardon issued on may 8, 1769. Discusses rebellion among Indians of Rio Fuerte. 800 Yaquis volunteer to fight Fuerte rebels as proof of their loyalty. De Vargas reports to the viceroy on the state of Indian troubles in Sonora, Sinaloa, and Nueva Mexico. He speaks of the troubles created and alliance and constant communication between the rebel tribes - Apaches, Pimas, Jocomes, Janos, Sumas, Mansos, and the other tribes of Sonora. Specific mention is made of the mission of San Francisco de los Mansos founded by fr. Francisco de Vargas, and inter-marriage between natives of that area and Apaches. (C. Briggs) (1975)

Loyola reports on the susceptibility of the Jano, Jocome, Suma, and Manso nations to reduction and christianization. The Mansos, he believes, will provide a foothold for conversion of the other tribes, as they have been friendly in their previous contacts with the Spaniards. Describes plans Sumas, allies Mansos from Patu, Chinarras, Janos, Jocomes, to gather 10 leagues from Casas Grandes, devastate area. States Alcalde mayor Casas Grandes captain Salazar planning to evacuate Pueblo unless help arrives, there by abandoning fertile Valley wheat, maize, more than 20,000 cattle. Claims such attack could destroy Opata nation, allies of Spaniards, Sonora itself. Notes Christian Sumas attempting to remain faithful to Spaniards but threatened by hostile Indians. Most of this document relates the long and varied campaigns against Indian (mostly Tobosos) enemies around the Chiguagua area and efforts of priests and soldiers to protect the friendly Tarahumaras many of whom they had attracted to a stable mission life. States most Indian nations experienced good harvests, health, allowing missionaries to extend conversions. Notes rapid adoption rosary, holy week ceremonies among Mayos, Yaquis. Recounts certain miraculous cures. States rebellious Nebomes now almost all reduced and at peace. When Spanish military force entered Nebome territory, surrounding Indian groups made peace as well. Notes successful conversion Chinipas, Sisibotaris (named after great chief who came to San Felipe de Sinaloa to seek baptism, priests for people). Fr. Mendez, converter of Nios, Ocoronis, Jeuecos, Mayos, Yaquis, sent to Sisibotaris, welcomed with ceromonies, etc. Very few hechiceros, no lewd night dances among Sisibotaris. Fertile fields of maiz, other vegetables irrigated from River with notable workmanship. Describes clothing men, women (cotton, deerskin, pita), virtue/modesty ladies, house styles/material.
