Fueros informed of replacement, acknowledges arrival of Carmona, who is to occupy governorship of Coahuila until Gutierres available; Ugalde confronts Fueros with evidence of personal incompetency; Fueros' 'escolta' for trip to Mexico discussed; Fueros defends honor, counters accusations in lengthy missive to virrey (consists of 106 'capitulos' (folios 90-134), follows no obvious thematic sequence, possibly response to enumerated charges or specific 'borradores'), mentions political and military successes, explains actions regarding provincial and military affairs (names, places, campaigns mentioned), especially relations with Indians of the region (details vague), places blame for some errors elsewhere, notes weaknesses of men appointed to replace him, argues (#29, folio 104) that Ugalde's motive 'no Es otro que quitar a los que no Se conforman con su particular modo de pensar.' Concerns Ugarte's explanation for disagreements with Ugalde concerning method of defense for provincias. Ugarte agrees to remain in Chihuahua to meet with Ugalde. says both commanders should grant peace to Mescaleros in Nueva Vizcaya despite Ugalde's disapproval. Ugarte says Ugalde's information is incorrect and was gathered by ignorant people. says his own proof more reliable regarding controversial issues. Asks permission to send expediente directly to king. Asks virrey to review miserable results of Ugalde's campaign. Ugarte includes informe by Maynez relating peace request by Mescaleros. Maynez told messenger to return with food and tobacco as proof of intent while waiting for virrey's reply. Virrey denies request due to planned campaign by Ugalde to intimidate Indians in area. Orders Ugarte to maintain war against Gilenos. Discusses placement of his troops in different areas in north. Grants permission to send expediente. Comandante general to assume command of western province. 4th compania volante to escort Rengel to Sonora where he will assume command from Anza. Subsequently Rengel receives virrey's permission to travel to Mexico due to deteriorating health and receive half salary Rate of a comandante inspector, later transferred to Spain. At end of September 1788 Echeagaray to lead 400 man 80 day expedition to Sierras del Rio San Francisco and Mogollon. Monthly campaigns against hostiles to continue. Discussion of funds to assemble, sustain pacified western Apaches at Bacuachi and Chiricaguis auxiliaries whose loyalty must be cultivated. Indian prisoners of war to be sent to Janos. (J. Numero 30 includes copies of letters describing Munoz's military service history, letter in which Munoz appointed interim governor of Nuevo Santander, succeeding Vidal. 31 includes anonymous letter from 'vecinos de Nuevo Santander' in which they accuse Vidal of stealing ruthlessly from them; authors beseech virrey to arrest Vidal, reimburse them for money, goods stolen over years; fiscales evaluate claims, but that without known accusers and more specific charges, unable to prosecute. In 32, 3 Pison Indians request assistance in returning to mission after traveling to Mexico City to 'reclamar sobre Tierras de que Les ha desposeido.' (L. Kerr, June 1989)

Summary
Includes 6 brief, unrelated expedientes, numeros 7-12. In 7, Lasaga informs virrey that certain residents of San Carlos should be exempt from taxation because they have no permanent home or work, but mine whenever possible, and serve whenever called to arms. In 8, Lasaga says it came to his attention that large group of Indians (unnamed) are held prisoner in Aguayo, but soldiers no longer able to contain escapes; guidance from virrey requested. In 9, Lasso informs of shortage of servants in Veracruz, requests that 6 Mecos return with him to work in that capacity; will educate and care for them. In 10, Indians (unnamed) journey to San Carlos to request financial help; each granted 1 'real' daily. In 11, Lasaga solicits advice from virrey regarding Aracates, previously guilty of murder and theft, but now want to establish peaceful relations. In 12, 2 Pacitas kill Young Boy, wound another; Comecamotes trick soldiers into truce, then kill several, steal cattle, kill pastor with own knife; soldiers' actions found 'imprudente.' (L. Summary
Concerns publication (book ?), of administrative proceedures sent from conde de Galvez to Ugarte y Loyola regarding the governing of Provincias Internas del oriente and Occidente. Specificies the kind of events the commanders of each province muist report back. Document comprises gives a break down of the many characteristics that Spanish colonization implemented in the conquest of Indian territories. Strategies of the conquest are explained in this document, such as use of Indian controversies to facilitate their reduction. History of how the conquest began is given. Document explains trade Spaniards had with some Indian nations in order to subjugate them. Specific indications of what type of activities were allowed for Indians under Spaniard's domination is given. Characteristics of several Indian nations are provided, such as which one was friendly and/or hostile. (this document is a very important summary of almost all kind of activities the Spanish conqueror had to implement in their fight against tricks used, legislation among provinces, judicial organization, religious strategies etc. Etc.).
