Logbooks by Valdez and Alcala concerning exploratory trips around San Blas. Spaniards travel in la Mexicana and la sutil, and meet an English ship -discovery- with which they travel for some days. Concerns summary of Camano's logbook in his exploration trip around San Blas, but is not chronological and is incomplete. He describes physical characteristics, war tools, man and woman physical traits, man and woman adornments, weapons, fish and hunting tools of the Indians. Types of trees, animals, fishes, plants, and metals are also described. Emphasis is given to good looking physical appearance of the Indians as well as to their easy going attitude towards the Espanoles. (R. Gomez, September 1989)

Summary
Three letters from Ugalde to Florez. First two discuss past situation with each band of Apaches; how he anticipates future of treaty, necessary military stance to ensure compliance. F.202 third letter Ugalde mentions personal friendship with Picax-Ande, how far he thinks he can trust Lipan's intentions. F.205 mentions treaty signed July 10, 1788 at Rio Puerco, stipulations, bands involved, aftermath. F.206 livestock, cigars, grain given to Picax-Ande for treaty; he then attends mass. Some physical description of Apaches camped at San Fernando. Ff.206-207 detailed description of ceremony Apaches perform in celebration, including war dance toward destruction of Comanches; further description occasionally through F.219. Periodic mention of rations given to Indians (apparently accompanying Spanish on March.) F.219 discusses reasons for baptism as told to Indians. Interesting, well-written, easily legible documents. Index only mentions issues addressed between viceroy and general commander of Provincias Internas, but the documents are not found here. Nevertheless, there are some characteristics in combat; commercial goods (coas, cuchillos, Mantas, etc); area of good duraznos farming; reference to some Indian population who are meek and have beards. These Indians were discovered in previous campaigns. Indexes give a narration of the general situation of Provincias Internas. Letters, accompanied by a cover sheet, from Ugarte to Anza and the marques de Sonora concerning establishment of peace with Comanches and Yutas, Ugarte's support of Anza's actions, continuing negotiations between Spaniards and Comanches, orders from Ugarte to Anza regarding policy, value of Ecueracapa's services and his salary, arrangements for the placement of Spanish officials near rancherias, ongoing negotiations in Texas providing Indians with interpreters, continuing war between Spaniards and Apaches, treatment of captive children and adults, conversion of non-christian Indians, instruction of Indians in Spanish language and customs, acculturation of Indian children, commerce with Indians, warlike nature and customs of Comanches, efforts to convince Comanches to practice agriculture, supplies of money and livestock for Indians, and description of ornamentation and appearance of Comanche men and women meeting with Ugarte.
