Bacoachi, others. September 14, 1790 to October 28, 1791. 76p. Letters, informes. Signed.
Summary
Concerns need to find missionary who has same zeal for conversion as Granados for Bacoachi Apaches. Suggests using some of religious paraphernalia meant for Seris to supply Apaches. Need for support for establishment of mission at Bacoachi. Wants money from treasury to get tools to teach agriculture (with ploughs) to Indians. Granados tells that Jacinto, Chacho asked him personally for minister for all Apaches there; mention of petition to same effect. Pau reports there isn't enough money in religious funds to afford a new missionary. Suggests asking for priest from apostolic colleges. Grimarest speaks of 200 pesos to be paid in charity to Pima missionaries; says some of that could go toward Bacoachi mission. Also willing to allow some auxiliaries to work in fields to support mission, but doubts Indians would be good at it; it isn't in their character to be industrious, only warlike. Granados brags of turning fierce Seris from wolves into lambs, baptising them himself. Nava speaks of granting parcels of land to Apaches to make them self sufficient, at same time sell them livestock for ranching, using profits to build mission so that it's not so expensive. Mention of Jacinto, Alexandro planting corn. (A. Dean, April 1989)

Documentation
Pitic. April 21, 1769. 6p. Letter. Original. Signed.
Summary
Seris called menos Mala, y la que Mas ha sido castigada of all rebels. 114 Seris killed, captured since June of 1768. Many Seris asking for peace. Notes surrender, pardon of capitan Crisanto. Crisanto states many Seris wish to make peace but are so dispersed it is difficult to get them together. Seris tired of life of constant danger, afraid of Spanish troops since attack on Palma canyon. Marcos described as el principal leader of Seris. Elizondo argues that although it would be best to exterminate rebels, their tactic of dispersing into small groups make such a task virtually impossible. States if Seris had been treated justly in first place, they may not have rebelled. Claims they were enslaved by los expulsos (Jesuits) and had most reason of all rebels to rebel. Notes that since Seris first to rebel, they're blamed for hostilities committed by other rebels. States Seris menos ynumana, y la que menos y mbasions ha hecho en la Provincia de ostimury. Notes that reduced Seris can be used as guides against Suaquis and Pimas. (T. Sheridan) (1980)

Mexico. December 14, 1791. 96p. Letter informe. Signed.
Summary
Informe concerning monetary malpractices in Missiones. Describes overpricing of articles by Jesuits in order to obtain 150% more money than Baja California, and thus be able to attract a larger population by means of a higher pay, changing servant status into muleteer status in some presidios in order to be included in military payroll, a number of mistakes in previous calculation explain how a round figure of four thousand pesos per presidio is requested by Monterrey, and three thousand by San Francisco and San Diego while they really should get 1600 and 1200 respectively, and futile efforts to bridge the differences. Detailed description of difficulties in every day life in Alta California, trying to justify a raise in pay. Letters granting a total of five thousand two hundred pesos for the four presidios and a raise of four hundred pesos for clothing. Letter describing living conditions and architecture of presidios in Alta California, arguing that it will be cheaper to rebuild than to repair. Letter from Monterrey complaining about difficulty in finding Indians to repair the presidio due to the cold winter. Letter requesting revision of final figures to presidios in Alta California, since Fages (who had the decree) passed away. Description of Californias demography.
