Discusses state of Sonoran missions, describing Former abuses of Jesuits, stating that, los pueblos de las missions... Estan formados y dispuestos contra toda politica racional, y sociedad civil. notes Indian hostilities, especially severe in upper San Miguel, Sonora drainages. Claims hostilities responsible for depopulation of prosperous mining community of Saracache north of Cucurpe. Discusses abuses of Indian land by Spaniards and their livestock, stating that Indian in Cucurpe who beat animal eating his crops sentenced to 50 lashes. Notes spread of disease (viruelas, Sarampion) to gentile Indians of Rios Gila and Colorado. Discusses Garces' entradas to Rio Colorado. Proposes plans for new Indian reducciones, arguing that communal labor must be enforced and Indians must not be allowed to live without guidance of civil-religious authorities. Summary
Galvez notes Yaqui migrants to Baja as miners, pearlers. Discusses progress of Elizondo expedition and states that the junta de guerra decided, as inviolable principio, that lives of rebels would be spared only if they surrendered of their own free will. Need T assure Crisanto, Seri followers who surrendered at Pitic that their safety is assured as long as they are loyal. Grants pardon to Pima who surrender at Pitic. Pimas Altas who wish to reduce themselves enlist Valdez as intermediary. Pardon issued on may 8, 1769. Discusses rebellion among Indians of Rio Fuerte. 800 Yaquis volunteer to fight Fuerte rebels as proof of their loyalty. Seris under Marcos not to be attacked because they've committed no hostilities since Galvez published his pardon. (T. Sheridan) (1980)

Testimony taken by Juez visitador Rafael Rodriguez Gallardo from some 100 Pima, Mayo and Yaqui Indians who were forced to work in various projects around the presidio of San Pedro de la conquista against their will. Soldiers and others familiar with the case are also interviewed concerning the Indians and their treatment, working conditions, punishments, torture, pay etc. Are described. Lists of some 80 Indian prisoners and their respective pueblos and tribes are included. Excellent ethnographic material. (D. Deeds) (1977)
