Typeset decree of April 16,1834 secularizing all missions in the republic. Missions were converted to parishes and were regulated by local governors. Decree allowed four months for the transition. Letter requesting permission to write a book entitled historia de la Antigua California. Clavejero, a Jesuit, wrote the original book. Letters concerning payments in and out of the contaduria of calif.. Ff.#21,22,24, itemized accounting documents. Contaduria salaries discussed. Summary
Letters concerning two houses owned by the contaduria. They are houses # 11 and 12 located on Calle vergana. The houses suffered damage during a Series of minor earthquakes on November 23, 1836. Entire block of houses also owned by contaduria. Buildings were also used as offices. House 11 rented for 36 pesos per month. After quakes, discussion of costs of repair vs. Condemnation. Summary
Mayordomo Lucas of hacienda de los Amoles ordered to appear before Aduana to testify as to distribution of effects and payments to peones, Vaqueros and ranch hands. Judicial process involves collection of Alcabala on claimed expenditures for this purpose by Valiente, the administrator of the hacienda Amoles. Lucas hesitant to testify incurring recriminations from bosses. Proceedings moved to hacienda to facilitate access to witnesses and financial documents. Officials appear at Lucas' home to enforce order he testify; his wife screams at them she does not know his whereabouts and that he only obeys orders of his boss. F. 9 is lista de generos for San Pedro de Ibarra, Rancho de los Amoles containing quantities and prices for household goods, tools, sewing materials, clothing (certified by Armesto). For continued lack of cooperation of hacienda owners/administrators Valiente is to appear at proceedings in Guadalcazar and further action if necessary to be taken by higher officials, including viceroy. Letter written by Rodrigo, wife of Gonzales de Burgos, reiterating that her Husband has been seeking employment for 5 years, intimating that many vacant posts for which he applied were been given to Younger people despite his experience. Merino tells Salcedo that he held low opinion of Gonzales in his post in secretaria, does not recommend reinstatement. After losing job as administrador de Tobacos, Gonzales solicits job as administrador de Alcavalas in Saltillo; asks that documentation of employment history, references be sent from real hacienda. Rodriguez Gallardo's deposition and remarks to informe written by visitor of Jesuit missions in Sonora. Issues discussed include consolidation of dispersed pueblos de indios; military escort for religious entradas into frontier areas; definition of indios vagantes; reasons for Pueblo desertion. Cites various articles from recopilacion de Leyes de las indias concerning reduction of Indians to mission life. author suggests that 2,000 pesos be sent to governor of Sinaloa to combat Apaches and that Barrancas of Sierra Madre be cleared of small Tarahumaran rancherias, and Indians gathered to be settled in larger pueblos. Also discussed are issues of election of Indian civic officials, regional officials to oversee Indian communities, Indian labor at missions, and punishment of mission Indians. Included is definition of siembras de comunidad versus siembras de Iglesia; number of Indians needed for a Pueblo to be legally recognized. Summary
Letters concerning the sick leave wages of navy pilot Jose vendria. While in Manila, vendria contracted a severe case of herpes which left him unable to work. Tribunal requested to determine wages for Vendia. Carrasco lodged a complaint against Vendia receiving wages. Carrasco requested wages. Carrasco denied. (K. Mckaston, March 1990)

Summary
Diarios de comision and instructions on mission matters written jurisdiction of Cosiguriachy (29), report filed by Rascon on missions of Batopilas and Moris, visits visitas of los Alamos, pachua and Pichachiqui and hears their sentiment on the resettlement of Indian families into their area - amenable to idea, Indians seek payment from rejos for work done he declares himself insolvent, mentions orders of Croix in which he terminates of all servitude imposed Indians since their conquest or reduccion in connection with the same process executed by the subdelegado de Batopilas, visits Papigochy mission appoints Indian Basilio Dominguez as teniente general, appoints Indian Sanchez to teniente general for Bachiniba, commissioned Ochoa to visita of said Pueblo, sum of money owed to population of Bachiniba they want it paid in goods and equitably distributed among the heads of each family with some left aside for community use, sum is from the fondo de temporalidades, Ochoa arrives from Bachiniba reports 33 families, Pueblo could successfully hold 15-20 more families due to opportunities provided by fertile land and abundant water, appoints Indian Lorenzo as teniente general of Pueblo Matachic and adjoining pueblos tejelocachic and Cocomorachic, appoints as general of all pueblos of Cosiguriachy the Indian Lagarda; instructions to be followed by Ochoa in mission under his security measures during visitas, census taking, proper arming of mission Indians, exemptions, edicts on travel, change of domicile, surplus seed sales, work without pay, punishment of Indians, postal service, religious and occupational application of Indians, elderly of Pueblo, servitude, rule of two days of community work for Indians of misiones Guadalupanas, hearing complaints, Indian appointments, reporting of Apache incidents, Indian fugitives from missions and livestock stolen.
