Informes concerning Spanish-Indian relations in the northern Provincias Internas. Provides excellent description of state of affairs. Included are estimates of number of enemy Indians, and enumerations of presidial troops and auxiliaries. Good discussion of presidial needs for defense (E.g. Rivera), need to augment soldiers, change location of presidios, remove women and children to safer regions. Also included are freight lists of goods for Indian campaigns and fiscal documents concerning expenses incurred during campaigns. (J. Carpenter, June 1987)

Folio 169 is a letter by Sanchez navarro which details difficulties of travel and communication in his area of jurisdiction. Gobernador Barrios, after visitas, proposes ways of reducing danger and hardships to personnel to reduce growing open complaints of life in province. Summary
Changes in military command in war against Comanches; prices of corn, wheat and cod fish to provision presidios; martos y Navarrete and Barrios y jauregui change governorships of Texas and Coahuila, requests made to Cortes and king for transfer out of province or return to Spain; Alcabala established and effect of financial and environmental hardships on moral, creating dissatisfaction; observations of Barrios' visitas regarding defense against indians and discovery of new mines. Importance of documents is to show increasing danger, economic and military deterioration and dissatisfaction with administration and life on Spanish borderlands. (J. M. Johnson, January 1987)

Main missionaries and soldiers killed by Comanches at San Sava; reserves needed for additional support of presidios against Apaches; expeditions against Comanches and allies; distribution of arms and munitions to improve frontier security; joint program by missions and military for pacification of Indians; formation of new cabildo, Ayuntamiento de Monclova.
