Christobal Barela suspects his wife Antonia Tereza of having an affair with another man, and also, that her Brother, Manuel Gutierres is aiding her in this matter. One night Christobal descends upon Manuel's house banging on the Door and demanding entrance. When Manuel comes to the Door Christobal insists that Antonia Tereza is inside, in bed with another man and he (Christobal) attacks Manuel with a lance, which Manuel evades. There is a big uproar in which several people rush to the scene, including the Alcalde mayor and Christobal and his Brother Jose Mariano are arrested. That, now being reunited, Muniz and his wife leave the jurisdiction of la Canada, and reestablish themselves in some other place more congenial to themselves, thus avoiding new complaints and grievances of Husband and wife. A negotiated agreement between Maria Guadalupe Ortis and Thomas Maese, releasing Maese from an obligation to marry Ortis. Maese had gotten Ortis pregnant, but since she had reportedly already had two children she was willing to forgo marriage in return for a cash payment of 18 pesos over three years and the obligation to raise the child as a legitimate offspring. A legal arrangement between Juan Apodaca and Maria Dolores Sandoval, the woman who Apodaca had gotten pregnant and had promised to marry. Sandoval had already had two pregnancies, and a deal was worked out, to release Apodaca from his obligation to marry her.
