Diego de Vargas is explaining to the priests of the area surrounding Santa Fe that he is able to grant the military men they have requested in some Cases but not in others. The padres offer a well organized and comprehensive picture of the status-economic as well as social-of the Indians with whom the missionaries work in the north.
