F. 333 lists contramaestros, providing birthplace, Father's name, age, physical description of each. Ff. 334-337 give same information for sailors. Two representaciones by Hijosa to Bucareli. Ff. 277-279 request viceroy to advise Audiencia to send 30-40 presidiarios to clear land around San Blas for settlement. Ff. 280-282 ask permission of viceroy for Hijosa to appoint contramaestros and guardianes of navy equally from Europeans and native born. Hijosa supports native born who often have greater navigational abilities. Reply from Bucareli is follow regulation procedures. (J. M. Johnson, may 1988)

Series of documents concerning roof repairs on houses of accountant and treasurer of the navy in San Blas. Documents include estimate for repairs and recommendation for a new roof. Final Bill includes the addition of a Wall around the house and a Series of letters discuss whether the Wall should be paid for since it was not included in the original estimate. (S. Series of documents concerning Juan pantajo y Arriaga's request to transfer to a position in the administration en las reales Rentas de Tobacos and to be paid 1,000 pesos in wages. Documents include a report on his years of service as a navigator in the port of San Blas and letters of recommendation from various Naval officials. (s.tisdale, October 1989)

Series of documents concerning the request by Antonio Gonzales Tellez, Piloto of the Navio San Lorenzo, to stay in the port of San Blas and to post guards around ship until he is recovered from an illness and can go on to Sonora, his destination. He is concerned about the poverty of the area and wants protection while being detained. Tellez is given permission to continue his office as Piloto de la real Armada and is given 200 pesos to outfit his March to Sonora. F. 344 is a brief treasury report. Last F. 348 has note about the destination of Pedro Antonio de Anda. (S. Tisdale, oct.1989)

Series of documents concerning Nicolas Ramirez' trip to ports of Noca and Monterrey as the Naval surgeon on the Frigata Princesa. Due to last minute preparations Ramirez had to leave with very little supplies or money. Correspondence concerning his request for medical supplies and money. Ff.334 and 336 mention regulations dating to December 7, 1789 concerning financial assistance for trips such as this. (s.tisdale, October 1989)

Series of documents concerning Naval surgeon Jose Maria Maldonado's request to have 20 pesos deposited monthly during a six month period for his Father, Jose Gregorio Maldonado. Correspondence concerns certification by treasury at San Blas and procedures to be followed for transferring the money. folio 320 cites royal orders from 1773 which says that the Naval treasury should assist the families of members of the royal service. Series of documents concerning Manuel quimpers illness and his need to transfer to Guadalajara for treatment. Includes some minor discussion of climate in the Nootka establishment and the voyage of the Frigata Aranzazu. Certificates from doctors in Guadalajara giving detailed description of Quimper's herpetic disease for which he requires a dry, temperate climate for recuperation. Correspondence concerning Quimper's pay and his request to return to Spain because the climate in San Blas does not agree with him. Mention of decrees passed as early as March 8,1703 and how they effect the decision to pay Quimper (ff.288-289). Itemized list of Quimper's wages. (s.tisdale, October 1989)
