Concerns two different topics. 1) apprehension and punishment of Frenchmen entering New Spain. Came to trade with the Indians and taken prisoner by Spanish. Their goods confiscated, some were sent to Mexico City and others imprisoned in los Adaes. 2) formation of a mission at mouth of trinity River. Comments are given on available natural resources for building of mission, the Indians of the region, and the necessary Spanish to people the settlement, most of latter coming from los Adaes. The threat of French encroachment is used to emphasize importance of new mission. (M. Bowman) (1979)

Summary
Jazinto de Barrios y Jaurigue sent Marcos Ruiz to investigate reports of a French settlement at mouth of trinity River in Texas. Ruiz took 25 soldiers and received help of 31 Vidai Indians. He took four people prisoners and an inventory of goods captured, which is given. When threatened with attack by Indians friendly to French. Ruiz threatened to kill French if Indians attacked. French were persuaded to calm their Indian friends. Documents also includes request of Orcoquisas Indians for a mission. One of prisoners was Jose Blanpen (Blancpain). (M. Bowman) (1979)

Croix's letters to Peru concerning presidial affairs in 1782, including transfer of Apache prisoners from Janos to Obraje of enchinillas, stationing of detachment of 25 soldiers in Valle de San Buenaventura to protect inhabitants, proposed attack on Rancheria of sangrietto Apache leader Francisquillo, Apache attack on Cucurpe led by Joseph Maria Gonzalez, stolen from same village as Young Boy, more than 300 Apaches attacked Cucurpe June 6, 1781, leaving 53 dead, including Gonzales' Father Eugenio, capturing 44. Gonzales known as Cayetano among Apaches, also stole horseherd of Santa Cruz presidio. Spaniards exchange 3 Apache girls taken on campaign in Sierra Florida for 2 Spanish boys, 1 mulato Boy taken by Apaches in Valle de San Buenaventura, Santa Cruz de Tapacolmas at Malpais. Tapia commands Apaches to help him look for missing soldier Felix guerra. In earlier letter (January 17, 1778), pp.221-223, Tapia notes Apaches' wish to delay prisoner exchange until end of Mescal harvest, request for Apache girls currently in households of Crespo, O'Conor. Apaches reassure him they are enemies of recalcitrant chiricahuis. additional documents concerning prisoner exchange. Autos de guerra concerning uprising involving most of Coaguila tribes listed in 201. Major Indian leader called Don Pedrote. Indians attacked missions, roads leading to Parral and especially to Zacatecas. Soldiers from Nuevo Leon sent to help quell rebellion. Leon leads combined force of Nuevo Leon, Coaguila presidiales in campaign against rebels. Told of large Rancheria on other Side of Rio Grande with many buffalo hides. Notes presence of French among Texas Indians. French prisoner describes French settlement protected by 2 Castillos with 20 pieces of artillery at Bahia del Espiritu Santo.
