Very important and detailed correspondence include (especially agricultural and religious supplies for 3 missions of the Santa Barbara Canal; F. 309 lists officers for 3 Principal California presidios. Serra reports on repairs to old and construction of new missions, emphasizing temporal and evangelical elements in conquest of souls. F. 312 details requirements for furnishing missions and religious objects for each mission. Provides salaries of religious personnel for each. F. 313 is a list of priests at each of 8 missions attached to Monterrey. Comments on bad examples for Indians set by troops and settlers in area. Neve discusses weapons and clothing supplies for California troops and settlers. F. 318 list of clothing necessary for people in missions and presidios. Ff. 319-320 refer to past methods in determining minimal subsistance of food and clothing supplies. F. 321 is chart of amount of bullets, gunpowder, flints and types of weapons by presidio needed for defense. Defines need for new regulations to correct deficiencies due to distances of king and real hacienda from California. Proposes improved military organization and requests greater numbers of soldiers, supplies and horses. F. 324 discusses military escorts, organization, personnel, time of year with estimated subordination of soldiers, military promotions, equipment for cavalry units. Census of military personnel, including tackle and rider's clothing for cavalry. Distribution of animals to each presidio. Debate among government officials due to irresponsibilities of Pedro Junon who was in charge of administration of mission affairs. folio 244 contains a signed document stating that Pedro Junon refused and failed to carry out viceroy's orders. Chart in folio 251 contains list of missions and sinodos paid along with claim that such sums of money were not the ones reported to viceroy.

Summary
Administrative correspondence of intendente Corbalan, primarily brief commentary on ongoing communication between him and viceroy as summarized in the superiores Ordenes and representaciones. Viceroy's responses, dated several months later, directly follow intendente's comments/inquiries. Ff. 81 reorganization of intendency, intendente's duties and salary; distribution of land, water rights, irrigation and religious education of Seris on Tiburon. Ff. 84-86 relate death of governor Sastre, execution of his will (Albacea), and responsibility of real Casa to determine amount of king's fifth on a gold nugget found in his possession. Ff. 94-95 are taxes on tobacco, playing cards and gunpowder; salaries for religious from Jalisco serving in Sonora; collection of tribute from Indians; need for better accounting for collecting royal fifth on ore mined in province; scarcity of Moneda sellada in circulation; and status of crops, workshops and personnel assigned to Indians in reduccion. Ff. 122-123 is certificate of death of Alfonso Ruiz Zorzano. Other documents briefly general of mines to be postponed due to illness and bad Weather; reduccion of Hiaques on Tiburon, recommends pardon of capitan Calisto for good behaviour, after involvement in uprising; gold nugget of Sastre not found among his possessions. Ff. 136 & 138 are superiores Ordenes from Bucareli for February-March, 1773. Ff. 142-144 are representacions of intendente to viceroy for April-June, 1773 which include fishing; rebuilding mission churches in Suaqui and Charay and completion of irrigation (acequia) for Seris in Pitic. Documents relating to military appointments civil appointments and life in general within Provincias Internas. Most viceroy by Croix for two thousand men to bring peace to provincias, documents against capitan Barrios and his removal, naming of capellanes to presidios, requests of salary advancements from religious personnel and military personnel. Also, total commercial freedom in Americas with cultivation, collection and transportation of pepper and Tabasco to Spain, prohibiting Duran and Chavez to travel to Spain again without first requesting viceroy's permission, orders to transfer Queipo to Spain to live with wife, issuance of new coined money to Cajas reales and lists of personnel who have finished their service and retired due to injuries and insanity. Summary
Orders from viceroy to comandante-general giving him command of auxiliary troops to stop Indian depredations. F.b256 is cover sheet accompanying letter. F. C002 is letter concerning payment of troops, followed by Series of autos regarding contents of various royal treasuries. Some autos contain tables of accounts from 1781-1782. Ff. C005-c008 is informe concerning findings of tribunal of accounts. Ff. C009-c010 is another informe listing contents of treasuries at Arispe and Chihuahua. Mention of use of funds for military expeditions. Ff. C005-c019 are correspondence between various officials regarding tribunal of accounts dated July 1783-November 1785. F. C020 is cover sheet accompanying consulta regarding transfers of money to Chihuahua for 1788. Ff. C021-c023 are letters concerning need for supplementary funds at treasuries. Ff. C024-c032 are tables of accounts from Durango, dating from 1773 to 1787 (written in 1787). Ff. C033-c036 is letter from Chihuahua concerning needs of royal treasury. F. C037 is another such letter. F. C038 is cover sheet for F. D001, which is letter from comandante- general to viceroy asking for permission to send money to Durango and Chihuahua to cover shortages. (W. Copas, March 1988)
