Series of correspondence to Gobernador Escandon: tables of numbers of troops stationed at towns and missions of Nuevo Santander; notes ship carrying aguardiente run aground near port of Tampico; notes trip of virrey to Coautitlan; death of Amarillas and appointment of Caxigal de la Vega as new virrey; undetailed accounts of attacks by Xanambres and Taumaves against towns in Sierra Tamaulipas and internment of prisoners from these raids at Queretaro; undetailed accounts of celebrations at various villas in Nuevo Santander of coronation of new Spanish king, including dances, plays, mass, bullfights, loas (?), reenactment of battles between Christians and Moors, moxigangas (?), and music. Also includes letter from Escandon to virrey concerning cattle and corn harvests, notes cases of theft from Pisones by Xanambres and general state of poor relations between these tribes, migration of Apaches into northern part of colonia, and abundance of unspecified minerals in Sierra Tamaulipas. Mission Indians will be provided as auxiliaries only in case of enemy invasion of town or mission. Suggests advantages of building a fort between Guadalupe and San Marcos rivers to defend area from hostile Indians. Transfer of English castaways from English schooner to Bahia and future plans for them. Concerns use of 29 San Sabas troops for Coahuila and their return. Request for materials to build Quartel. Complaint of lack of troops. Viceroy request for and tables supplied by Ripperda on numbers, ranks and locations of troops in province. Tobar resigns; Cazorla replaces him. Without money Tovar will build church and feed people without resources, complains about present governor Ripperda and praises last governor Oconor. Detailed account of Rivera's misfortunes. Suspicion of English prowling coast and shooting cannons. Conflict with priests over treatment of Indians. Detailed description of construction of church. Mention of importance to populate las Nuezes, impossibility to take declaration from two natives, importance of examining in detail geography of coast near Bexar, so that it will be easier to pursue Indians and there will be fewer shipwrecks. Cazorla finds no direct evidence of English traders, though he does find Indians with English guns. He finds some French and black traders whom he arrests.
