Concerns Ugarte's claims that Ugalde has misused authority by making extraordinary requests of officers under Ugalde's command. Also, Ugarte says presence of Ugalde's troops endangers present peaceful relations with Indians. Ugalde moving troops to El Paso where Mescaleros are formalizing a peace request. Virrey says Ugalde was told to keep governor of Coahuila informed and asks Ugarte to advise him of situation. Includes several oficios regarding Ugalde's presence there and a copy of Rengel's letter to Ugarte regarding summons to El Paso by Ugalde. Includes copies of Ugalde's requests for troops and horses. says Ugalde never conferred with him. Contains Arzes' account of movement of troops and geographic description of area and water sources. Provides number of people, ranches and governing leaders of Comanches and other tribes in area. Describes activities of and campaigns against Indian tribes in area. Provides dates of peace agreements. says needs more military supplies. Provides information regarding military and Indian losses and locations and activities of troops on certain dates. Contains several documents concerning Ugalde's request for horses. Following virrey's request, Ugarte agrees to sell correspondence due to perceived intrusion by Ugalde. (M. Summary
Espadas desires to punish Carancahuazes who, along with others, have exhibited increasingly cruel hostilities. Espadas has made attacks resulting in several injured and murdered Indians. Includes oficios from commanding officers describing campaign, its causes and results. Contains description of assaults and robberies by Indians. says civilians Volunteered for campaign and Indians from missions served as spies to explore territory. During attack many Indians escaped into rivers. explains need for six military boats for use from Nueces where Indians make summer home on fertile Isle to Varada, their winter home. Virrey responds saying attacks by Apaches and others would be less severe if Ugalde would cooperate with Ugarte. says resentments greatly displease him and orders him to loan troops to provide best service to king. Concerns informe by Cuellar for Sierra Gorda regarding water supplies from Revilla to Nueces. Sierra Gorda ordered him to discover all Indian entry spots on expedition. Accompanying diary describes area saying land is fertile. Suggests establishing town and detachment along Ojos de Agua to prevent Indian influx. Rivers would provide quick transportation to another town down River and would greatly increase defense. Has already spoken with people anxious to establish. says Ten small towns would secure Texas and Coahuila. Planning other expeditions in Santander to propose plans in other areas. Cuellar's diary includes details of expedition, route taken and locations of rivers, streams and springs. Includes geographical description of area. Flat lands, empastadas, changing farther along to more mountainous areas. Virrey responds saying in order to act on suggestion, must also have information on wood, labor, land and populations. (M. Continues description of Collera de Apaches begun in preceding sequence. Complete account of disposition of Apaches transported from Chihuahua and Pilar de Conchos to Mexico, record of baptisms, deaths, burials by place including names of citizens receiving sick Indians. Enderica's daily log of distances traveled, places stopped. Complete cost accounting of expenditures for mules, cattle, corn, other supplies with written receipts. Certification of Enderica's cost accounting and receipt for funds in excess of expenditures returned to Cajas Reales, Mexico from advance received for expenses. (J. Higgins, March 1989)

Summary
Concerns Series of documents reporting on destruction inflicted by Indians upon provincias del Poniente. Charges of negligence are brought against military officials who were not doing their job in controlling Indians. Apaches have stolen and killed animals as well as vasallos in haciendas and pueblos. Complet reorganization of presidios and military personnel is suggested to stop Indians from committing more crimes. Resources and potential capacity to support inhabitants in each presidio is given and analyzed (document contains lista of presidios and their military personnel. They also include notes in which military supplies, such as gunpowder, weapons and food are listed. This documents is important because it suggest that Indians had beset and put in despair Spaniards in 1788. (M. Marroquin, may 1989)

Summary
Concerns letter from Canaveral to viceroy explaining a whole strategy to accomplish Indians reduction. For this the governor suggests distributing land in Santa Gertrudis, where conditions are good for that purpose, in spite of cold Weather. Plan includes reorganization of presidios and authority in Nayarit (more personnel, new salaries, more supplies etc). Letter describes inaccessible conditions of Nayarit, stubborness of Indians who workship idols and progress being made in their reduction to the crown. Political reorganization of alcaldias in the area is also suggested. (M. Marroquin, April 1989)

Summary
Very important document on instructions and rules for founding new missions, presidios and towns. Neve expresses need for equalization of salaries for same rank/position among military, religious and civil personnel. Document divided into titulos, transportation, accountability, rations; crops; horses, mules; craftsmen. II. - lists of officers at each mission, presidio; description of terrain, Indian settlements for planning defensive positions; military escorts to establishments at Santa Barbara channel; salaries of officers/soldiers at four sailers and craftsmen on blandra Pilar, lanchas Lauretana and San Juan hepomuceno. III. - clothing; canons. IV. - armour distribution, types, purposes and accountability of funds; procedures for filling vacancies; evaluations by service reports. Ix. - requires monthly status report of each company. X. - Indian treaties. Xi. -gubernatorial functions regarding (ff. 386-390). - details on selection/training of habilitados (paymasters); accountability to real hacienda, Naval/military superiors and settlers; F. 390 consists of inventory and production data of small animals, cattle, horses, mules. Xiv. Settlement and use of land; supplies; irrigation and crops; house construction; cattle; taxes; regulations re.
