Summary
Several letters from the capitans of the villages informing Escandon of the losses. Almost all the villages lost their crops. Several letters from Escandon to virrey informing him of the reconstruction of the villages and needed supplies. Altamira approves Escandon's requests and the information is passed on to virrey for final approval. Escandon writes to the virrey of the struggles they are having with the Apostata Guardado. A uracan is reported in July 17, 1751. Escandon requests supplies by ship from Veracruz to Tampico; Escandon reports to virrey that the Guardado and other Indians have been eliminated. The last letter of Escandon is dated March 1, 1760 and mentions the possibility of creating an Obispado for Nuevo Santander. In folio 56 avitadores naturales de las mismas fronteras hacen Sus siembras y Cosechas de maizes, frigol, Calabazas y Sandias en abundancia. (D. Bautista, April 1990)

Summary
Two letters from Escandon to virrey informing him of the destruction caused by the rain and requesting 12,000 pesos to buy 3,500 fanegas de maiz to cover the needs of the population. The other letter is to inform him of the progess of the new colony, the pacification of Indians, the establishment of missions, and the discovery of mines. The letters that Escandon is sending the virrey are analized by marques de Altamira and he gives suggestions to virrey. Escandon gives an order to stop a rebel Indian, apostata guardado. (D. Invites consultation and outlines accompanying documents which should be returned to archive in south (Loreto ?). Observations of civil-military-religious relations in province. 2) ff. 126-135 Galvez' instrucciones of 1769 to barri. Discusses duties of governor and importance of stern but just punishment of indians for economic independence from missions. Discussion of governor's administration of pearl fishing, with reference to leyes de indios, previous reales ordenes and cedulas to prohibit foreigners. Better fiscal management of mines and defense to establish more missions and presidios in province. Copy consists of 26 sections, dated 9-30-1774. 3) ff. 142-144 index of 19 documents Barri sends to neve of Galvez' visita to antigua California of 1769. Brief description of each document. Dated 9-30-1774. 4) full texts of Galvez' visita/expedition of 1769, copies from 1768 to 1770. Overall impression of carefully prepared, detailed planning for military-civil-religious coordination in province. Attention to fiscal-administrative matters to establish good relations between Spanish and indians (although typically condescending towards abilities of latter group) for economic-geographic expansion in Californias. Overall idea for governing broken families to Loreto, agricultural and religious training, artesan and pearl fishing industries, rights and inheritance regulations of lands after secularization (temporalidades) from missions, specifications for architectural plans of church, plaza and homes, wages and formations of indians into militias. Production from salinas, transportation of these by canoe sacramento and paquebot la concepcion, salaries, equipment and supply rations for all levels of workers and managers, diezmos (taxes) and royal fifth on production. Coordinated defenses by military and militia of missions, neighbors and presidios to continue outward expansion to new territories. Realtionship of provincial income/outflow to real hacienda in Guadalajara, including pricing, collecting of diezmo and quinto for ramos of playing cards, gunpowder, mercury, papel sellado, and tobacco and pearl fishing and mining industries. Of special note are great details in ff. 159-160 of maritime transportation of products to and from lower California from north and to continent, and ff. 161-162 of ordenances, supplies and rations to be in effect for each type of vessel used. He is concerned about the poverty of the area and wants protection while being detained. Tellez is given permission to continue his office as Piloto de la real Armada and is given 200 pesos to outfit his March to Sonora. F. 344 is a brief treasury report. Summary
Series of documents concerning the suspension of Francisco Lavastida's pay for not fulfilling his duties and obligations as contador de Navio de San Blas. Include reports from a surgeon and doctor concerning Lavastida's illness, letters commending his good work and letters from Lavastida protesting his suspension of pay. Lavastida mentions his part in preparing the delicate expedition of the British court to the american coast. Which was also the destination of the virrey; called the expedition de limites (f.188). Summary
Series of documents concerning change in Naval command due to death of contador and requesting permission to anchor in the port of Veracruz. Correspondence asking the viceroy to appoint a new contador for the San Pedro de Alcantara so that it can get underway. Letters concerning Monterde's promotion, his transfer to Spain and his request for passports to take his family with him. Correspondence concerning payment of ships crew includes a detailed accounting of sales of Plata during trip from San Blas to Vercruz and what money was used for. (S. Tisdale, October 1989)

Series of documents concerning the request to buy a ship and to conduct a commercial exchange of food and goods between Mexico and California using the frigate Concepcion. Correspondence mentions problems with fraud and contraband with commercial shippers. Perez is given permission to buy ship and to carry out a commercial expedition between San Blas and California in which he was ordered to obey all laws of Spain and America and to report all incidences, exchanges and people that he comes in contact with.
