Autos pertaining to challenge by Vargas to kings naming of Rodriguez Cubero as new governor of New Mexico. Diego Vargas claims title of Conquistador of New Mexico due to his retaking territory from rebel Indians. Vargas also claims that new governor is not entitled to territories of Santa Fe and adjacent towns but only of el Passo del Rio del Norte. King confirms Rodriguez Cubero in letter to viceroy. Fray Menchero requests escort to explore Rio del Norte and reestablish missions to bring Indians back to the fold of the church also establish presidio in junta de Rios del Norte y Conchos. Viceroy gives orders to acquiesce with fray Menchero's wishes unfolding a plan of his own for such undertakings. Entry of two Frenchmen into Nueva Mexico to trade and explore territory. Detained and merchandise confiscated, sent to Santa Fe to governor who after investigation with aid of translator decided to send men to Mexico after auctioning their merchandise. from Chihuahua men were sent to viceroy in Mexico City where they ended in jail.
