Isidro de Bera and several Vaqueros are out rounding up cattle when they encounter a band of Tarahumara living on their hacienda, killing cattle. In the ensuing battle 2 Vaqueros are killed and one is wounded. Several Tarahumara are killed, and the remaining men escape. Bera rounds up the women and children. Contains subsistence and material culture data on Tarahumara. Also many accounts of depredations by Tarahumara and Apaches. (R. Perez) (1977)

Antonio Molinares, a Miner, has staked his claim in the middle of a Milpa belonging to the Indians of the mission Carichiqui. Nothing the padre can do will make him leave. Documents includes a list of all the Indian officials of the Pueblo. (R. Perez) (1977)

Testimony given during an investigation of the disappearance of the Indian gobernador of Coyachi, along with several others. The residents say its because of the padre's mistreatment they went to complain to the bishop. The Spaniards say that the governor engineered it all in order to run off with another man's wife. Estevan, a Tarahumara, is accused of Murdering a Spaniard. The identity of the victim must be inferred due to the state of the corpse, it had been partially consumed by Coyotes. Estevan confesses, giving as his motive that the victim whipped him. He is captured by his fellow townspeople who turn him over to the Spaniards. They also supply a long list of previous crimes committed by Estevan. The sentence is death by hanging, the corpse to be quartered and placed in various public locales. (R. Perez) (1977)

In her last will and testament, Ana de Benabides states that upon her death two of her slaves will be set free- Manuel Salvador, age 11, and Joseph Joachin Lopez, age 5. The Former will have to pay the amount set by the executor of her estate, the latter is to be placed in the care of his aunt who must pay 100 pesos for his freedom. (R. Perez) (1977)
