Concerns 340 pesos received by Royuela in Monte Pio de oficinas from Arispe in Coahuila; letter which states requests that real hacienda reimburse Monte for mentioned amount; letter from tesoreria general approving above transaction; money is taken out of Saltillo as per a judicial proceeding; letter from Lassos stating to marques de Branciforte that amount cited has been given to treasurer of Monte Pio, Ximenez. First two letters in this Series barely legible; followed by an index of correspondence that centers around military fiscal affairs for the year 1801; commentary on the decisions of the junta Superior on matters related to accounts for military finances, index continues into March of 1803, speaks of matters such as the percentage to be Charged on bills of exchange, the reestablishment of the rescate de oroy plata , military communications, transportation costs; beginning with ff. 0268 sequence of folios was photographed on top of folio 0279; real tribunal answering questions as to whether or not the percentage being Charged on bills of exchange was producing some benefit to the real hacienda in light of the administrative costs associated with it, answers that there have occurred some controversies associated with payments of salaries in the presidios. There has been limited implementation of the percentage mentioned in order not to jeopardize the integrity of the general funds, the percentage has been changed to 12 percent (from 1 12 percent) in light of its deleterious effects, ff. 0268-0278 not decipherable due to half pages being copied, upside down and reversed placement etc.; index mentioned earlier resumes on ff. 0279 with basically the same type of abstracts (tracing the correspondence related to the accounts and their submission to periodically to the real tribunal de Cuentas); letter from Nava informing Berenguer de Marquina that the estados de ingreso, salidas, y existencia de Caudales de la real caxa of Arispe was sent to him by Guebara; index mentioned above ends with February 3, 1810. Concerns the internal treasurer of Chihuagua, instructions to him to precharge 1/2 percent on bills of exchange as per Nava; letter requesting sums of money for the royal treasuries of Arispe and Chihuahua; the preceeding abstract is part of an index of letters written in 1796 concerning military finances which traces correspondence between the real tribunal de Cuentas, junta Superior and others, ff. 257-260 illedgible, Series resumes being legible with ff. 0261; index of quadernos concerning the assets used to pay salaries of troops, employees, and synods, number of quadernos indexed is 21, they begin with the year 1773, quadernos dealt with such things as reforms taken in procedure to promote efficiency , the establishment of accounts, tobacco, change of die-stamp on money, reconciling entries, establishment of Pagaduria in Arispe in order to pay troops, methods of reimbursement, establishment of Pagaduria for payment of synods to missions, information on salaries, sums of money needed to quell Indian rebellions. Certain sum of money from the paz y guerra account was being spent on maintaining prisoners of war in 1789 at same time that the account was being clarified; claim by Nava that Cortes had failed to count costs of maintaining prisoners of war that continued in 1789 when he was reconciling paz y guerra account for Bahia, asking for those funds to be returned to Bahia; letter from Monterrey inquiring as to why the real tribunal y audencia has taken so long in finishing work on the documentation relative to the paz y guerra accounts for Texas and Coahuila; real tribunal requests that Nava prepare report on costs made to this account for the year 1788; Gondra writes that delay in processing account due to death of Cabo-Franco and sickness of Medina, to the costs mentioned by Nava earlier is added gifts to Lipanes, gives progress made so far on these accounts for several areas, goes into the history of the account in terms of its establishment and motives (covered in detail in expediente 3 of this reel), attests that no mention is made on documents that he is examining prisoner and gift costs; issue is explained by Gondra by pointing to the date of incurred costs and timing of examination of the accounts, cites verification by means of written proof of costs as way to resolve this issue; letter from real tribunal informing virrey that after examining the paz y guerra account the 368 pesos that Nava held were still in the account for Bahia are not there; orders to communicate this information to Nava allowing him opportunity to submit proof in order to substantiate his earlier claim. Concerns the whereabouts of 860 peso surplus from account paz y guerra that exists according to Cortes, virrey asks governor of physical location; Series of letters compiled by Emparan from various authors to show the distribution of surplus alluded to above by virrey, which was originally given him by Cortes. Letter from Nava telling virrey that he has received documentation relative to the paz y guerra account; letter from Nava to marques de Branciforte pertaining to the reconciliations of the above account; account was not formally closed due to the death of Cabo-Franco (accountant), additional commentary on the reparos which appear in this volume on ff. 0186-0202, also covers how the surplus of this account was distributed, letter states that official closing of account is included (does not appear on reel); letter from real tribunal which requests proof of authenticity of claimed costs incurred in paz y guerra account; in general real tribunal satisfied with the presentation of the account by Cortes except for the proof in the reparos part of the account cited above. Letter to the contadores mayores which explains the document found in the previous Series which dealt with the paz y guerra account for Coahuila (ff. 0186-0202), the only additional information here is that the 6.000 peso sum is being cancelled in 1790 because hostilities with the Indians has resumed; mentions permission of Nava to spend amount on mules and other items related to this matter; sending of quadernos concerning costs incurred by Cortes in Bahia and the liquidation of the Same, adjust this account in relation to the real hacienda; remittance of materials related to aforementioned account to various officials; relacion that gives information on the gratificaciones given between 1787 and 1789, list of soldiers and cadets that were employed as scribes is given with corresponding salaries (1790 document); document containing correcting entries to paz y guerra account, the corrections made by real tribunal de Cuentas de Mexico and then sent to current governor Munoz. Letter telling Nava of right to spend surplus of gratification account on business of peace and war, order to deposit sum into account in Monclova; Cortes hands over documents to Echegaray concerning funds 6.000 pesos dedicated to peace and war in 1789; governor of Coahuila sends documents concerning the account of peace and war for the year 1789 to the intendente of San Luis Potosi; conde de Revilla Gigedo urging payment of accounts relating to the 1789 peace and war account in Coahuila; in order to close account for 1789 real tribunal de la contaduria mayor needs the original expediente number given for the disbursement of these sums, end of quaderno 1 dealing with 6.000 pesos assignment to Coahuila for costs of maintaining peace. Letter in which the conde de Revilla Gigedo urges expediency in the matter of the 6.000 pesos to be given to Ugalde for Indian pacification; correspondence from the real tribunal de Cuentas concerning the proper method of accounting for the payments of salaries to Cortes and others (as described in detail in ff. 0134-0140) in light of the surplus from the 6.000 peso account for gratificaciones mentioned earlier in this volume; letter ordering ministros de real hacienda in Coahuila to stop crediting the 6.000 sum until documents pertaining to 1789 account are submitted to intendente at San Luis Potosi; letter which mentions that the Indian groups for whom the gratification was for, have openly declared war against Spanish, thus sum in question will be diverted from gratification in Coahuila to compania presidial de Monclova; letter expressing same message to Ugarte y Loyola. Letter concerns a document prepared by Cortes describing how money was spent on the pacification of Indian groups mentioned, according to accounting there was a surplus of 2.200 pesos in 1788 amount, Salcedo asks opinion of virrey on matter of limiting the amount to be given to 4.000 pesos in light of the surplus; letter mentioning Ugalde's request that surplus in gratification account be allowed to be applied towards the salaries of four military scribes and one dependiente named Pena, that this be allowed annually, Flores requests that the sum needed to meet the salaries be ordered from the sum that is being held by presidio de Bahia as referred to in the last sequence of documents (ff. 0120-0133); Ugalde has interceded on behalf of Ugalde and resolved matter of salaries, money will be sent from the presidio of Bahia, reminder to Ugalde to submit paperwork for the first 4 months as it regards the activities in the account set aside for the pacification of the Indian groups mentioned; Salcedo acknowledging the decision of junta Superior and virrey in this matter with the only qualification being that he be allowed to explore the advisability of letting Ugalde pay the salaries mentioned from the 6.000 pesos that will be sent to him annually for the pacification of the Indian groups mentioned.
