Notes governor of California Barri's request 30 Spaniards to serve as soldiers, establish settlements, 100 Indians from Rios Sinaloa, Fuerte, Mayo to work mines. Magistrates 3 rivers instructed to persuade, but not force, Indians to migrate to California. 1621 inhabitants in Oposura, Cumpas. People both pueblos speak Hore (Opata dialect). Inhabitants Oposura gente ladina because of presence Spanish miners San Juan Bautista 7 leagues away. People work in mines, raise abundant harvests, live in flat-roofed houses, have beautiful 3 Nave church, good religious band. Indication some problem caused by wage work in mines, however.
