Several letters and oficios regarding fugitive Meca women prisoners from Hospicio de pobres; eventually some are captured; orders circulated to subdelegados to apprehend and imprison Meca fugitives who will then be sent to royal prison in Havana; among these documents are inserted unrelated letters (copies) investigation of troops' finances; this protested in another letter as offensive to hard-working, dedicated soldiers; not very rich in detail. Summary
Letter describing Apache raid on Cienega. Son of Quegocga captured. Mention of war in Chiricahua mountains, Chiricahua troop and fugitives camped at Bacoachi. All of Aysose's followers in reduccion at Bacoachi, also Neya and 25 of his tribe (apparently submitted to this to be reunited with his Brother, captive elsewhere). Pozo imprisoned for trying to rally Chiricahua converts against Spaniards. Mention of Tarahumara delinquents imprisoned in Durango. 100 Tarahumaras in Sonora detachment commanded by Marrufo. Mention of intent to form corps of military, citizens, Indians of pueblos, Gentiles toward effort to destroy Gilenos. (A. Dean, March 1989)

Summary
In a Series of letters Escandon requests several items that will salaries for new officials, funds to support the settlers until they reap their first crop, a variety of goods for establishing settlements (agricultural equipment, clothes for the Indians to be reduced, oxen, tobacco, hardware, gunpowder, etc.). He also requests the promotion of low rank military officials that participated in his first expedition, an explicit order directed to local authorities of the frontier for them not to interfere with his undertaking, and the establishment of severe punishment for Indians who flee from the reducciones. Several changes to found two more villages, more funds are necessary, etc. The authorities continue to support the enterprise enthusiastically. (A. Nielsen, November 1989)

Series of charges against Escandon. First charge, folio 10, that Escandon did not reduce Indians peacefully and failed to populate the colony; second charge folio 60 that Escandon did not distribute the land between people, soldiers and Indians during twenty years; third charge, folio 77, that he did not take in to account the meeting of 1748 on election of captains and treatment of Indians; fourth charge, folio 88, failure to investigate the murder of several Indians; fifth charge, folio 90, failure of Escandon to investigate and punish captain Guevara's murder of a group of Indians; sixth charge, folio 90, no investigation of other murders by Unsaga; seventh charge, folio 91, Escandon orders killing of three Indians, one a minor; eighth charge, folio 93, a citizen of Aguayo complains to to Escandon about the behaviour of a captain, Escandon punishes the complainer and when the wife of the complainer goes to look for him and she was murdered by the Indians; ninth charge, folio 95, Escandon separates Indian men from their wifes and children, and sells Indians to other cities resulting in Indian retaliation and thus starting wars with Xanambres and Apostatas. Letter found seeking money and help from other Indians in order to free Juan Tonate et Al from jail in Mexico, and to join together to kill missionaries; testimony taken from witnesses; three men from San Lucas and one from Guazamota sentenced to five years in jail; three of four released after four years served, one Dies in jail; prisoners questioned; prisoners transferred; judge named; captain expresses concern Indians in towns planning to come together in resistance; question whether letter fabricated by guazamotecos; idols found which point to unrest; captain stresses that Ladino Indians from San Lucas and Guazamota not be allowed to mix with Nayaritas; fray Ibarra doubts whether the Nayaritas involved in plot based on their rusticity; residents of San Lucas and Guazamota express fear that Tonate would kill natives and steal livestock when released from jail, so did not join conspiracy to kill priests; brigade formed to stem Indian hostilities; Nayaritas and guasamotecos seen to be quiet; bishop supports request to release prisoners as crime small in relation to punishment.
