Summary
Continuation of Roldan-grimaldi controversy described in preceding entry (ff.22-55). Includes depositions of Ramon Cisneros, Manuel Rivas, and other soldiers involved in fray. Soldiers claim they were only defending themselves against civil authorities, who beat them up. Juez fiscal Rongel also interrogates just about everyone else involved in controversy, including Grimaldi (ff. 76-77), who claimed Roldan just using incident as way to attack Grimaldi over dispute over mine called San Juan Nepomuceno. Letters from Falco to comandante general informing him of rebellion and misconduct that took place in Bavispe naming Falco suggests comandante send prisoners to Chihuahua; letters from Garcia to virrey informing him that provincias are in peace. Letter from general of Opata nation for comandante informing him that his people have nothing to do with rebellion in Bavispe; letter from the realista to virrey informing him of public fight between Falco and Paula that is affecting all the presidios, saying that the Gachupines are fighting for the money; Garcia suggests virrey send a military officer to Chihuahua; copy of letter from Melgares to Garcia informing him of movements of united states against some places on the coast. Several letters from Arredondo informing virrey that the provincia is in peace, explains that contract for sale of tobacco refers to Occidental rather than Oriental provinces and he is not sure if there is truly a contract. Inventory of shipment sent to Spain and value of the shipment; receipt of instructions concerning adventurer mac gregor and notification of other governors to be aware of him; letter from comandante of Tula to Arredondo concerning Indians that are stealing and killing; letter from Arredondo to virrey accuses Castaneda of smuggling contraband with angloamericans. Summary
Proposal from Ugarte y Loyola for position as capitan of the primera compania volante de Nueva Viscaya supporting Baldovin, lists candidates for position and service records. Position open due to promotion of Tovar; tenientes of compania listed and description of their eligibility for promotion to be considered as candidates. Rodriguez for capitancy in Tupson and other two presidios because Azuela, fronteras capitan, has died from accident; Rodriguez' service record provided. Soler selected as interim capitan of primera compania volante de Nueva Viscaya with annual salary of 2000 pesos. According to Ugarte y Loyola, service record of Soler as Ayudante inspector favorable, but has left Californias due to scandolous love affair which provided poor example to mission Indians; Ugarte y Loyola also selects Soler for interim capitancy in Tupson, and orders him to reunite with his wife.
