Summary
Contains several testimonies verifing Serna's serious illness and possible inability to command. Due to illness, Echeagaray given command. Echeagaray sends sets of letters to Castro for which never received response from Serna. Complains of sernas rudeness, lack of judgement, incompatibility. says he neglected duties, does not rule with efficiency expected from a commander and has not requested permission for many activities. Tells Castro that Servin can stay with his company. Relates difficulties since Bustamente gave him command due to fact that Serna refuses to turn over Archivo. says serna@s account are incorrect and irregular. Contains lists of expenses and consumption of Polvora and munitions put together by guerra. Echeagaray says Serna is incompetent and owes company 3,000 pesos. (M. Dannemiller, October 1988)

Concerns prisoner who confesses his desertion in church. Diaz informs Castro of situation and asks what action to take. Reports that soldier gave false name and committed crime to avoid 8 year appointment in Havana. Needs to have permission to extract criminals from sacred places. Provides statements from witnesses. Summary
A Series of letters concerning events affecting the tercera and mules in lacombas possession, documenting number and description of horses, monthly troop strength and location reports as well as military rolls, health report for Martinez, death of governor, custom, and problems of borrowing mules and horses from civilian population for transport of military equipment, pardon given to Gutierrez, settlement of debts with Indians, edict setting policy on treatment of ministers of tribunals, promotion of Soto and subsequent dismissal due to alcoholic problems followed by testimony from witnesses of resulting derelictions of duty and finally his replacement with Venavidez, formal charges lodged against Soto, dicharge of bortrego and replacement with Palos, desire to dismiss Puga, shipment of sealed documents to governor, enlistment of Arocha to replace Soto, informing Ugalde of preparation for campaign, recent theft of mules and horses from mission and statement from priests in charge, problems of acquisition of mules through purchase or legal seizure due to unavailability of said animal, troop movement and destination as campaign looms near, temporarily filling a comission for teniente de justicia with Cossio, Galban handing over command of company to Lacomba, promotions of Echeagarrey ands Gutierrez de la Cueva to assistants to the inspector, Gutierrez de la Cueva assigned the job of shipping arms, orders requesting movement of troops to a more strategic area, impracticality of this due to poor topography, orders to send 100 horses and lacombas reluctance because of Lipanes tribe, filing of credit and debit report for previous year, agricultural activities of mission, late arrival of Arocha and Puga. Summary
Series of letters concerning matters affecting tercera compania current state of affairs reports, acquisition of horses and mules, credit extended to the company by the gobernador of the area for 1788 and 1789, unpreparedness of his troops for an upcoming campaign, an incomplete letter from Perez speaking to need of some basic church artifacts for services, request to discharge Puga for over extending his leave, the wait he should expect for supplies needed for a campaign, recommends that certain Indian be put in charge of constructing homes due to expertise in masonry, Indian attack on hacienda resulted in animals killed and stolen asks permission to place soldier there for defense and capture, discharge of Ximenes and replacement with Ramos, alerts Ugalde that Ximenes has not been heard from since task of transporting horses, clarification on tabulations of salaries for report to be filed, troops preparedness for a campaign, receipt of 40 Shields, request and receipt of three discharge notices for; Borrego, Sanchez, and Inojosa, policy concerning widows and orphans as they relate to pensions, policy concerning; salaries and promotions, military relations, and job details, informing troops of the death of Carlos III, preparations made for upcoming campaign, Indian weakness and absenteeism at work and plans to ameliorate this condition, money sent to Ugalde, retroactive pay raise, actions taken on Ximenes, ineptness of Galvan and permision to alter methods relating to economic matters that he does not want Galvan to handle while he is away from company, and money requested from San Carlos in order to complete preparations for campaign. Summary
A Series of letters primarily from Lacomba to Ugalde but also from others concerning matters affecting the tercera compania record and invalid status of Paredes and Buedo, requests to leave the company for a meeting, requests to fill vacancies, transfer of money to Ugalde, inquiries into arrival and late arrival of documents, clemency for 2 deserters, unfounded rumors of Indian attacks, the number of horses and mules at his disposal, Ugaldes disposition to expel all those who seek retirement before an imminent campaign, the difficulty in conducting a census among a hostile Indian population, Puga's desire to have his two sons serve in the adjoining companies, a dubious Tale of a Lipanes Indian attack told to him, reports of armament inventory, adverse affect of Weather on agricultural production in his area, prosecution of deserters, orders permitting the virrey special powers, use of a civilian at a military outpost in a mission, debts owed among the troops, capture of two Indians and transfer to Ugalde, conflict between two soldiers that had been quelled, promotions of Errera, Soto, and Cossio and the resulting vacancies and salary raises. Series of eleven letters from Lacumba to Ugalde that cover: the disciplinary problem with Elozua, correspondence missing in transit, the logistics of a food shipment, the transmitting of troops, the unsatisfactory status of his troops, explains the delay in handing over two captured Indians and the intervention of Fray Gonzales, the request to fill two sergeanto vacancies, acknowledgement of the receipt of military instructions, and a letter and a relacion discussing the status of 10 soldiers in need of retirement for reasons of age, health, and disciplinary problems.
