Includes accounts by Gomez describing raids and murders in ranches and activities and movement of attacking Indians. says soldiers in remaining troops must work in fields, can't afford to leave. says Ugalde has taken more than just two companies. Requests virrey to return both. says Ugalde's inappropriate attacks on peaceful rancherias resulted in increased Indian insolence. Virrey says Vaamonde must take issues to Ugalde. says should be receiving assistance from other provincias but policy allows individual governors to determine where assistance is needed. Virrey says Vaamonde's information is inaccurate and need for reestablishment of two troops unfounded. (M. Dannemiller, February 1989)
