Summary
Cancio reports on state of affairs and activities at Santa Rosa presidio. Discusses problems with weapons and their inadequacy in battle, problems with enlistments and quality of soldiers, and charges against Rabago made by Alderete. Uniform and weapon supply list of items requested from Mexico (f.130). Cancio provides detailed report on review he made of conditions of troops, weapons, fighting ability, number of horses, uniforms and other supplies (ff. 131-132). In other letters reports on number of soldiers from presidio assigned to nearby places and missions, and notes difficulty in getting reports to viceroy due to distance. Ff. 138-139 contains letters from Cancio about his trip to Santa Rosa written at real de Charcas and Saltillo. Discusses condition of roads, Weather, and number of days until he reaches destination. Some notes from on his trip, his reports back on situation at presidio, and Indian activities in area of presidio. Letter by Cancio to viceroy from Mexico on September 18, 1761, mentions letter from February about his orders to go to presidio. (S. Fiederlein, 3-3-87)

Documents from presidio of San Juan Bautista during tenure of comandante Rodriguez. Discusses presidial troops, local Indians, and naming of captain at San Saba. Focus is on Former commander Rodriguez. Letters from his widow and son discussing his military career and situation of family after his death. (ff.69-71,77). Widow requests employment for her son. Copy of letter from Manuel Rodriguez (ff. 72-76) to viceroy discussing weapons, and information on troops. Copy requested by Francisco Rodriguez. Followed by 5 blank pages. Letter from V. Rodriguez to viceroy that briefly discusses his own career as captain of the presidio (ff. 79). States that Manuel Rodriguez I his Brother. V. Rodriguez ordered to appoint position of tenencia del Rio Grande as he sees fit. Another letter discusses troops at presidio, status of nearby missions, activities of personnel and Indians, and visita general of the presidio. Final letter discusses activities of some indios nortenos - murder and robberies and how part were taken to Bizaron and rest to el Carrizo. (S. Fiederlein, 2-20-87)

King of Spain orders closing of four missions; that religious relics be gathered by governor and held until their fate be decided upon. Orders consolidation of the following at presidio of San Antonio de Bexar. Vezions of the missions are ordered to move to Villa de San Fernando, near presidio of San Antonio de Bexar. Land and water to be given to those that had it before without hurting residents of San Fernando. A smaller fort is to be built on far Side of Arroyo del Zibolo, near San Antonio. Military officers (presidio commanders) are to be incorporated as lieutenants in new company at San Antonio. General instruction in proper performance of office of governor. Governor ordered to report weekly progress to captain of presidio of San Juan Baptista del Rio Grande. (T. Cederstrom, March 1987)

Discussion over salary and travel advances for new doctor and pharmacist. Includes correspondences supporting arguments on salaries and payment of travel advances. Seems Jaime Gursa accepted travel advance for trip from Veracruz to Coahuila but had not shown up yet. Real hacienda makes effort to reclaim money. (T. Cederstrom, October 1986).
