Administrative correspondence which briefly discuss following from mining, papel sellado, bulas and inventory. Ff. 160-163 list war expenses and summary statement. Other documents deal with crop planting and irrigation for Seris; transportation of mules to California by the Paquebot la Concepcion; mining regulations; provisions for Seris and Sibubapas; establishment of a postal system for province; revenue from tobacco. F. 171 is Superior orders received by Corbalan from the viceroy for November - December , 1773. Ff. 181-182 are representations directed to viceroy by intendente for December , 1773 to February, 1774. Viceroy advised that Corbalan will travel to Rio Hiaqui to resolve Bucareli for March 1774. Documents concerning the stationing of Destacamento de Voluntarios de Cataluna at presidio of Mesa del Tonati for the purpose of inspection and reform of Nayarit military groups. Includes type set printed passport and detailed itinerary from Mexico to Nayarit. Garavito makes inventory of personnel and placing of mines under presidial control, tightening of troop discipline, reconstruction of conduits to bring water to presidios, upgrading of mail service, and forcing of unoccupied Indians to provide labor assistance to military. Summary
Discourse between the governor of Sonora and the viceroy concerning various matters of provincial administration as to absent viceregal proclamations concerning issuance of new coinage, mail franchises, and announcement of birth of Infante Carlos Clemente (ff. 309-315). Concerning gubernatorial visita Colonel of provincial militias of Pardos y Blancos of several jurisdictions to Juan Antonio Caneda, Vecino of Rosario; brief letter, written at Mazatlan stating that, Sastre, as governor, will protect and give assistance to missionaries, destroy abuses committed against Indians... etc. Letters written at Culiacan and Alamos discuss order to send viceroy intendente Corbalan's financial account of military expedition of Sonora; response to viceroy's order that said intendente make visita of mines of province; formation of flying company under command of O'Conor to put down Indian unrest in Chihuahua (See below); governor's suggestion that if Indian named Calixto does not mend his rebellious ways, then prison sentence be considered (315-335). Letters written at Horcasitas discuss governor's order stating that copy of letters from presidial commanders be sent directly to viceroy (336,337). Sastre suffers stroke effecting right arm and leg (339,340). Notice of departure of Mule train under military escort from Cieneguilla bound for Mexico City, route taken, instructions for military escort, etc. (341,342; 345-349; 361,362). Concerning presidial armaments supplies (343,344). Concerns debt owed to real hacienda by Gallego in Nueva California; sale of Mezcal in Santiago Papasquiaro and hopes to stop illegal sale; request for gun powder for provinces for year concerns when Garibay began receiving his salary for San Bernardino capitancy; order about punishment of soldiers not wearing uniforms. Marini's letter to Mayorga discussing his merits and trip from Havana and virrey's response asking Croix to be of service to Marini. Concerns pension for Martinez' wife and discussion of discounts and Martinez' salary; also concerns Munis' wife's pension and sending salary to Spain. Concerns shipment of canons to Santa Barbara and shipment of money and supplies to California presidios. Mentions importance of ships in providing aid to vast area. Summary
Documents deal with matters concerning: Salaries and distribution of mercury to miners. Inventory and supply of firearms to military and militia. Requests for transfer due to hardships of frontier duty. Reglamentos dealing with commerce between provinces of Luisiana and Nueva Espana. Eventual responsibility of vecinos to take over financial support of militias, perhaps using alcabala as revenue. Shipment of supplies and weapons from Veracruz to Havana and windward isles. Sending troops to Texas and Coahuila. Ff. 216-217 report removal of cadete Bernal from Fronteras for repeated thefts; because of relationship to de Anza, lesser punishment given by stationing him in Manila.
