Viceregal orders concerning Seri settlement at Pitic in which Corbalan is commanded to oversee progress on construction of Canal, and to provide military detachment at aforementioned location. At insistence of Franciscan padre procurador of Querataro, virrey plans to send additional missionary to Pitic. Included is Corbalan's response to virrey's order that Seri communal land be divided and distributed to individual Indians. (J. H. Ochs, January 1988)

Three unrelated sets of documents from Coahuila. F.238 concerns cannons acquired by lizarrara's church being traded for donation from presidio. F.245 letters by priests suggesting convert and treat humanely those helpful to Spanish (opposed to present undifferentiated mistreatment of all Indians). Speaks of founding new presidio; better management of milicias. F.250 concerns Estrada, who claims to be legally retired, but who is being sought as deserter; presently taking refuge in church. (A. Summary
Correspondence with Roque de Medina regarding Provincia de Coahuila. Informes include report from Lipan of fighting between Lipanes and Comanches (total of 300 Indians) in Rio de San Diego. Roque de Medina expresses fear of providing Lipanes with gunpowder and cannons. Lipanes have great fear of Comanches. Request made of Texas gobernador to furnish Monclova with necessary supplies and ammunition to aid Lipanes. Cannons taken from Adaes to fortify Monclova. Report of Apache March to Santa Rosa to cause damage for unknown motive. Talk that Lipanes should be treated with much love so they become rooted in Christian faith. Continual praise of Lipan faithfulness and aid provided in hostile situations. Inspection of presidio Sacramento and its state of fortification and defense. Establishment of presidio Babia and its need of shotguns met by warehouses of San Luis Potosi. Martinez Pacheco presents information regarding relations with Mescaleros and Peyotes. (J. Summary
Accounts from San Francisco's presidio from 1776-1781, description of its creation since moragas arrival. Plan of San Francisco's presidio. Receipts from workers with detailed description of materials used and amount of labor required. Description of presidio and the advantages of moving it closer to the barracks to protect San Francisco's port. Letter asking for money to cover expenses for years 1785-1794 and advising not to change the location of the presidio to a more Solid land, instead a convent should be established in San Francisco to produce some monetary gain and conquer the Indians. Correspondence back and forth regarding relocation of presidio, finally permission is denied. Informe sent by Cordova describes how due to the close location of the presidio to the beach, and its construction (Barro y Adobe), every time they have to fire the canons in order to protect themselves the walls of the presidio crumble. Due to the size of the port it is impossible to defend it from enemy ships. Maps of San Francisco's bay and presidio. Summary of materials and expenses for building new presidio. (T. Remaining supplies and cattle for Lower California missions and presidios; of necessary personnel, food, cattle and arms for their defense; advises of shipments and receipts of items to same by paquebots San Carlos, el Principe and San Antonio. 2) ff. 341-344 are 1770 instrucciones from Croix to the Cabo of the Escolta de la mision in 16 capitulos including regulations for distribution of weapons, defensive measures to be taken, treatment and punishment of Indians, care of horses and cattle, food supplies and rations, relations with missionaries and Gentiles, punishments for contraband and illicit sexual relations with Indians. Orders investigation of origin of piece of wood found on beach near carmelo mission (sketched in f. 58). Costanjo summarizes possibilities of Spanish and foreign ships in area. Discussion of what is known of asian techniques for ship construction. Final opinion is that mast is from paquebot san Josef. Ff. 63-67 concern occupation and foundation of San Francisco presidio. Troops to be chosen and come with moncada from Sonora. Details provided on supplies, routes, etc. For expedition through Sonora. Ff. 68-73 details provision of mules, cattle and other necessities for Monterrey and San Diego missions. Useful information on quantities, ultimate destinations, notice of receipts, specific ships' cargos and animal casualties in route. Ff. 74-78 is instancia by pp. Fr. Mora of need to inspect and register boxes of supplies destined to nueva California from vieja. Suspicions of thefts from his missions. explains delay in supplies reaching San Diego and Monterrey for lack of mules. (J. M. Johnson, June 1989)

Major topics of other to be returned; description of Rivera y Moncada's conquest of San Diego; objects taken on loan for use by Galvez; supplies needed to reactivate mines; takeover of Jesuit missions by secular and clergy of other orders and economic consequences for haciendas; instructions for return of religious objects and responses by viceroy.
