Visitador general Gregorio Alvarez Tunon y Quiros inspects Gallo presidio, receiving roster of 39 men, their arms and mounts, from presidial capitan Lizaola, who informs him that additional 11 men sent to Mapimi, Cerrogordo presidios. Lizaola and other Gallo officers then answer formal interrogation concerning state of presidio. Presidial garrison apparently short of supplies, does not meet all royal regulations, but visitador general excuses it because garrison continually on campaign. (T. Sheridan) (!977)

Visitador general Gregorio Alvarez Tunon y Quiros inspects Pasaje presidio, receiving a roster of 40 soldiers, their arms and mounts, from presidial capitan Joseph de Alday, who also answers a formal interrogation concerning state of presidio. Capitan Alday informs him that although Pasaje has 50 plazas, or soldiers, 5 sent to Mapimi presidio and 5 to Gallo presidio. Visitador general also notes capitan Alday's preparations to deport 300 Indian prisoners, rebeldes, to Mexico City. Formal interrogation administered to other officers of Pasaje presidio as well. Desertion of one soldier, Marcos Lopez, noted. Reduction of horse herd due to many campaigns against rebel Indians previous year. (T. Sheridan) (1977)

Following raid of 600 Indians on presidial horseherd of Monclova, virrey orders campaign against invaders. Alday organizes troops, supplies. Documents include lists of vecinos from Santa Barbara, Parral, Huexotitlan (including those of color quebrad, Coyotes y mestizos), and soldiers from Conchos, Cerrogordo, Mapimi, Pasaje, Gallo presidios and Compana volante de Campana participating in campaign. Arms-mounts noted. Also, include rosters of 339 Tarahumara auxiliaries from 34 pueblos. Campaign unsuccessful. Hostile Indians never encountered. Not enough water found. General Don Gaspar protests a cedula which appears to have taken some of his authority away and created a new post of ^procurador^. His protest is directes to governor Enrique and the Audiencia in Guadalajara. Included is long letter in support of Gaspar's position. This is Series of comissions of militia officers and sargent-majors, some with accompanying peso amount to be given to the officer to raise his troop.
