First Juan de Salayces, merchant, Vezino of Parral presents letter to Cristobal Diaz, merchant, Vezino of Mexico City granting Juan exclusive authority to collect all debts etc. Owed to Cristobal. In the letter specifically Juan is given ok to sell a Mulata (female) slave named Bernarda age 19. In the next (August) document Juan is sueing Don Diego de Aguileta for taking the slave and never paying the 410 pesos for her. (R. Davis) (1975)

Capt. Mathias Pereyra Lobo, Vezino of Ville of San Philipe in Sinaloa sold Philip to Domingo de Apressa Falcon, Vezino/Minero of Parral, but Juan de Mendez contested the sale (for some reason?). The argument first was put before Francisco de la Rocha, obviously now appealed to Parral. Mathias says he received 300 pesos for the slave and there is no illegality or falt to the sale. Despite the title, this is not a case of robbery; rather, the case concerns a mulato (not a mestizo) who has been jailed as an escaped slave. The mulato, Antonio de Salazar, insists that he is of a free status and that, moreover, there are those in the city who can testify to such. He demands release from jail. (C. Needham) (1975)

A merchant and creditor, Alonzo de Castillo, in an effort to collect two hundred pesos owed to him by Nicolas Nunez and his wife, imprisons in the public jail a mulatta slave, the chattel of the nunez, as security until the debt is paid. Disgusting. (C. Needham) (1975)

This document concerns the efforts of Phelipe Catalan, who for motives of caridad is attempting to purchase the liberty - at properly accessed prices - of a six-month old Mulata slave. The author charges that the present Owner is delaying the release until the child reaches a more Mature age, and the price reaches a higher level. Testimony of clerical officials is also included. Francisco Canedo Sues Alonso Munoz for payment on two Negro slaves, and Munoz is ordered to pay or give up the slaves. (R. Davis) (1977)

Francisco conde Cercedo brings suit against the 3 mentioned men for Bernardo de los Santo's illegal sale of Indians to Martin, and Gaspar. In the process a number of Francisco's cows are killed and he in turn issues autos against a number of people. The governor, Don Luis, cuts off Martin's salary, and upholds Francisco's actions with one exception, in the case of Juan de Espinola. (R. Davis) (1977)
