Against indians who have stolen horses and cattle from haciendas; governor of New Mexico reports that he has been sick from his eyes and gives account of military actions against indian lipanes; series of letters reporting on good conduct of indians who have made peace with Spaniards, letters mention good treatment towards indians; report is given about problems in catching captain lipan ynx-intle who hides in the mountains; military campaign is organized to drive indian chief out of the mountains; report about indians being organized for agricultural work; report is given about raid organized against indian rebels using indian auxiliaries; comanches attacked Apaches killing some women and the indian chief; governor demonstrated his gratitude to indians for success of operations against Apaches and gives gifts to the indian auxiliaries. Series of documents regarding Indian robberies in presidio of Tucson and other presidios and towns of the provincias del norte; letters reporting on the recovery of animals stolen by Indians, confrontation between Indians and soldiers left a number of casualties on both sides; raids against Indians in rancherias of Bigotes, Cuernoverde and Bermejo; letter giving some details such as Indians of Nueva Mexico are behaving. Negotiations with Indians held in order to convince them to work in Spanish communities and presidios; letter discribing the natural distrust of Indians when they are offered work with Spaniards; raid against Indians results in some being killed and others taken prisoners; statistical chart summarizing actions against Indians in provincias del Norte. Borica started on November 23, 1790, resumption of visita after cease of indian attacks; leaves 40 men to protect the frontier area; indian theft of cattle from hacienda yndee and rancho ramos, plans to decrease troop strength in tercera compania once indians abandon unspecified area and send those troops to corral de piedra detachment; Borica forming his detachment by pulling troops from companys in area; virrey acknowledges letter sent by Borica announcing the commencement visita. Diary 0f 12-04-1790 thru 12-18-1790. Widow, indian and his family of four approach Borica seeking to be resettled in their original town tizono, had comandante del pilar station 30 men on cienega to protect against indians, stops at canada de san Joseph due to strong snowfall, has subdelegado of the cienega de los olivos transferred to guejonita for purpose of conducting visitas in those jurisdictions, comes across navogame who tells him of indians who had fled missions ostensibly to receive baptism in guerachi, tecorichi, or Nabogame missions, followed them into the barranca de zapa and chase was ended when rainfall made it impossible to continue; soldier dies of unspecified illness during visita; majority of families of baquiriachy involved in agricultural activities; diario of visitas from 12-19-1790 thru 01-04-1791, greater part of population of pueblo of guazarache found in the surrounding valleys looking for corn not produced on their own lands, news of horse theft by indians at tasgera and munquisa 2 parties of 20 men sent after them search terminated at Santa Rosalia, forbids certain missions to continue working indians until paid back salaries; while in Tepehuanes and taraumara made Arechevala and zapiain generals, made Tapia and cruz teniente general; teniente generals given copies of orders prohibiting employment of indians without pay and limiting those persons able to order punishment of indians to juezes reales and justiciales de pueblos, authorizes trevino to conduct search for escaped indians from missions in jurisdiction of oro, guanaceui, and Santiago; letter from sotelo describing capture of indians who had attacked and stolen livestock with aid of Monclova, grado, and Cordero; continues visita through Santa Anna comments on distressed condition of agricultural productivity; named dia teniente general, mentions briefly hardships faced by indians of san lorenzo because of the priest of this area; obliges priest to employ a cook for indians working for him, pay indians for work, supply them with oxen, supply them with food, escorts, and blankets for trips made by indians to Chihuahua in order to transport goods. Originals, copies. expulsion of the Jesuits and the reorganization of the missions in taraumara and tepehuana which will involve the individuals Gomez de Salazar, Beregana, and the biones indians; certification that 10,000 pesos have been deposited into real caja under authority of Beregana by yribarren on behalf of guizarnotegui and amount is deductable from the pay in arrears account; sealed letter from guizarnotegui certifying that he had yribarren deposit 10,000 as mentioned above; letter to real hazienda informing them of the 10,000 deposit; further explanation of above transaction with involvement of mugarrieta and madariaga; virrey's statement that he will release the 10,000 pesos from the account fondo de temporalidades once he receives draft or bill exchange; 3,000 pesos to be put in real caja under authority of podruesa on behalf of palacios to be taken from fondo de temporalidades and deducted from his pay in arrears, total for this account being 70,410 pesos; certification for 3,000 pesos for palacios and pesquera; pinto's request that their money associated with above transactions be released; three additional certifications fo 9,000, 3,600, and 4,500 pesos deposited by yribarren, porio, and martinez on behalf of heros, orduna, and galo; letter from virrey completing above transaction; request by heros, orduna and galo that sums mentioned above be credited to their pay in arrears account; the deposit of 21,317 pesos tres tomines tres granos in coinage belonging to recently deceased Arechevala, severino by the executors of his estate Arechevala, manuel and baroco into the real caja with the request that said sums be released from pay in arrears account.
