Serna and Echeagaray reprimanded and released from prison by Castro. says needs housing for soldiers since shacks are subject to fire. Also, primera compania needs additional storage. Includes letter from guerra relating troop movement. says Camoteros are friendly but can't be convinced to aggregate to nearby mission. Suggests construction of new mission. Lack of soldiers prevents campaigns against Apaches. Suggests building bastion at presidio for more protection. Castro mentions formal recognition of Texas' Mineral wealth. Concerns annual report of recent measures taken to increase population, agriculture and roads. Concerns proper treatment and relations with Lipanes. Castro delegates request by virrey for audit of guerra and Serna's expenses to San Maxent. Includes San Maxent's evaluation and documentation of expenses. Descriptions and outcomes of several campaigns. Letters acknowledge receipt and completion of orders. Includes introductions to monthly reports on developments and conditions of company. Contains drawing of barracks to be built upon approval. Diaz says has 42 Morillos of willow if lumber can't be supplied. Requests permission to reward 3 soldiers for Superior service. Contains certified count of ears and genitals presented to Castro. Five Indians from Sax' Rancheria caught, one killed with help of friendly Indians. Mules and property of these Indians seized and sent with Rodriguez to Castro. Diaz writes conde thanking him for leaving him in charge of political and military matters during his absence. Describes mission to Aguaverde. Perez says company doesnot have necessary items to administer holy sacraments. Requests funds for candles and wine. Reports three soldiers incapable of completing service. Concerns transfer of Indian prisoner. Concerns 16 pacified Indians in Palmas. Arocha requests transfer to Texas. Diaz receives notice of large influx of Indians to Bejar, responds by sending 60 men. Relates incident in which Indians stole 6 horses, fled when horses were retrieved and returned to Flores' ranch killing two people and burning the huts, corrals and horses within. (M. Summary
Letter from Cancio to viceroy in regard to attack on new puerto of Guaimas by group of Indians who stole horses and killed an old Guaima Indian. Naming of Lumbreras to take over defense of new installations and protect construction personnel. Doubtful discovery of having established port in wrong area; Cancio sends person by canoe to explore, depth measure harbor to be sure that construction was in right place as discovered by sea. After measurements carried out to satisfaction of Cancio, it is found to be in right place; Cancio congratulates himself. (A. Dell'acqua, February 1988)
