Mentions that military troop in Quatrocienegas would be positive, as that is area in which Lipanes travel back and forth in their raids. Some people complain that if troop is removed from Alamo, Indians would attack this region, and area may be depopulated. Statements that if Parras and Alamo fall, Indians may go as far as Zacatecas. Other letters state lack of grass, water, and firewood for proper maintenance of troop in Alamo. Mention of abundant grass and water for horses and cattle in Quatrocienegas. People in nearby haciendas may be resettled in Quatrocienegas. Discussion of animosity between Comanches and Lipanes; plans that Former may be used in battle against Lipanes. Letters deal with punishing two soldiers by transferring them to Nueva Vizcaya; one punished for leaving troop without permission. Most documents discuss money advances to soldiers for trip. Repayment should be taken out of their salaries, and soldiers should pay some interest on loan. Discussion of new appointments in Babia and Carrizal. (J. Tapia, March 1988)

Several letters deal with appointment of new council members in Parras and Saltillo; their confusion as to whether they should report to Durango or Coahuila. Mention of payment of media anata by civil officials. Other letters deal with discussion of whether Parras and Saltillo belong to jurisdiction of Nueva Vizcaya or Coahuila. See also serial 0002. (J. Series of lengthy documents dealing with formation of comandancia general del Poniente and comandancia general del oriente; Nueva Vizcaya belongs to Former, Coahuila to latter. Most documents concern whether Parras and Saltillo belong to Nueva Vizcaya or to Coahuila. Jurisdiction of Parras and Saltillo are important for proper collection of taxes and payment of media anata. other documents deal with requests from local municipal officials as to whether they should obey orders from Diaz de Hortega or Fueros. Some officials are threatened with imposition of fines if they do not follow orders from Fueros or Diaz de Hortega. Misunderstandings occur because prior to separation of two comandancias, Parras and Saltillo fell under jurisdiction of Nueva Vizcaya, and later were placed under Coahuila. (J. Tapia, February 1988)

Various administrative documents: 1) Loyola grants Castaneda license to legitimize unauthorized marriage. Castaneda transferred to compania volante of San Carlos de Parras from compania volante of Nueva Vizcaya. 2) baptismal notices of children of Castaneda Quevedo, Eugenio Fernandez 3) Campo de Alange informs Revilla Gigedo that he awarded pension of 8 pesos/month to J M Florez whose husband died in Lipanes wars. 4) M J Garibay informs virrey that she sends her shameless, bad-mannered servant to her husband for correction. Series of letters concerning matters affecting tercera compania current state of affairs reports, acquisition of horses and mules, credit extended to the company by the gobernador of the area for 1788 and 1789, unpreparedness of his troops for an upcoming campaign, an incomplete letter from Perez speaking to need of some basic church artifacts for services, request to discharge Puga for over extending his leave, the wait he should expect for supplies needed for a campaign, recommends that certain Indian be put in charge of constructing homes due to expertise in masonry, Indian attack on hacienda resulted in animals killed and stolen asks permission to place soldier there for defense and capture, discharge of Ximenes and replacement with Ramos, alerts Ugalde that Ximenes has not been heard from since task of transporting horses, clarification on tabulations of salaries for report to be filed, troops preparedness for a campaign, receipt of 40 Shields, request and receipt of three discharge notices for; Borrego, Sanchez, and Inojosa, policy concerning widows and orphans as they relate to pensions, policy concerning; salaries and promotions, military relations, and job details, informing troops of the death of Carlos III, preparations made for upcoming campaign, Indian weakness and absenteeism at work and plans to ameliorate this condition, money sent to Ugalde, retroactive pay raise, actions taken on Ximenes, ineptness of Galvan and permision to alter methods relating to economic matters that he does not want Galvan to handle while he is away from company, and money requested from San Carlos in order to complete preparations for campaign.
