Summary
Request for troops, funds and arms to be prepared for accidents or invasion by pirates. Fear that marriage of king of Spain with daughter of revelde of Portugal could endanger Havana, such as an invasion by English. Many soldiers have fled especially after receiving their latest pay and were unable to pay their debts. Request for funds to repair the fortifications of the 5 castles and repair 1500 fire arms. Provides figures of 1000 infantry plus mulatos and free blacks and slaves who are in military service. (L. L. Woodward, August 1989)
