Summary
Antonio Tafoya is found in a church near Santa Fe by Lorenzo de Madrid. Lorenzo de Madrid is under orders to obtain a testimony from Tafoya by Don Diego de Vargas. Tafoya says he discharged his arquebus because his horse moved from under him. A corporal takes the gun away and presents it to gobernador y capitan general. Tafoya says that only another soldier Diego Valasco was present and swears everything is true. On questioning Valasco they find that Tafoya had taken out his sword to fight with Ortega and Ortega pulls out arquebus which goes off. He does not know if it went off by chance or that he actually fired it on purpose. Valasco says he grabbed Tafoya's sword to put an end to this fight. He cannot swear to this by signing because he does not know how to write. (John Zilboorg) (1980)
