Following raid of 600 Indians on presidial horseherd of Monclova, virrey orders campaign against invaders. Alday organizes troops, supplies. Documents include lists of vecinos from Santa Barbara, Parral, Huexotitlan (including those of color quebrad, Coyotes y mestizos), and soldiers from Conchos, Cerrogordo, Mapimi, Pasaje, Gallo presidios and Compana volante de Campana participating in campaign. Arms-mounts noted. Also, include rosters of 339 Tarahumara auxiliaries from 34 pueblos. Campaign unsuccessful. Hostile Indians never encountered. Not enough water found. Summary
Various documents to viceroy including letters from Bustillo about his walk for a month from presidio Bahia to Adays to take over office of governor, carrying supplies of flour, cattle, horses, sheep, clothing, describing hardship and lack of watering holes thru journey. Bustillo indicates to viceroy his perception about Indians of area stressing his wanting to remain friendly with them, governor visits each town for 24 hours, sending his own horse to bring to a meeting a doubting chief. Governor wants to replace soldiers of color quebrado who he thinks are not to smart as Spaniards, fills Plaza of liutenant and Alferez for presidio in temporary Basis as title holders are sick, pays salaries to soldiers stressing not to advance monies in liu of salary but only providing soldiers with supplies. Governor makes lists of inventories of crown properties including armament, makes a military roll in which copy he calls himself gobernador y capitan general de las provincias de Thexas y Nueva philipinas, governor also indicates lack of gunpowder for cannons; reports trade between Frenchmen and Indians, French bring vegetables to trade for soap, tobacco, Chocolate with soldiers of presidio. Two Frenchmen request license to trade openly with Indians but governor negates license as he believes there are to many arms and ammunition among Indians which he believes the French have provided. Summary
Salazar's account of Garza Falcon's successful campaign against rebel Indians in Coahuila. Gives account of pursuit, battle and subsequent peace made with renegades. Following is Garza Falcon's letter to viceroy explaining terms of peace imposed on Indians. Also, viceroy's request that letter of thanks be sent to governor for a well-executed expedition. (J. H. Concerns conflict of authority between military officials; woman is kept in captivity; Indians complain of mistreatment by Munoz and ask for his removal so problems between Indians and Spaniards will stop; very detailed narration of Indians being killed by government troops who went in their pursuit, indio Tomas is interrogated under oath, he describes how Indians survived and attacked the Spaniards; Indian prisoner gives account of how Indians planned attack against Spaniards, some Indian nations colluded to attack Spaniards in conjunction and trade items among themselves; report on Indian child being interrogated by Spaniard (text of the interrogation is included); diaries of the pursuit of Indians is sent to the viceroy, chart about the final result of the campaign is included here, chart shows number of Indians and soldiers who were killed in combat, ammunition, weapons used, horses, mules etc.; governor certifies the public exhibition of genitals and limbs of Indians killed in combat during campaign; letter is sent to the viceroy praising heroic action of captain Bustamante against Indian rebels in Palo Blanco; chart showing the general military status of San Antonio de Bexar, chart includes list of military officials and soldiers, horses, mules and different kinds of weapons; statistical chart showing population of the pueblos of Nuevo Santander, its missions and population in every city and town; complete review is carried out of the presidios of the province of Nuevo Santander, report about the visita is sent to the viceroy, report takes into account physical aspects, military conditions, troop's health situation, description of the valleys, rivers and strategic position of presidios. Documents listing rights and obligations to citizens of Presas del Rey upon foundation of Villa by capitan de la Serna. Establishment of church, garrison, and other official offices. Requests by Serna to abolish residency, judgeship and sentencing surety as few people know him, he also requests title of capitan to be given to him as founder and teniente to his son Estevan, titles are approved. Priests requests money for sinodos and traveling expenses. Conde de la Sierra Gorda sends city charter, maps, titles of Solares to build houses viceroy frees Villa for Ten years payment of primicias to church. Other documents relate disturbances in town due to absence of priest. Document refers to historical event about sinodos when churches were secularized in 1734 by request of provincial of Zacatecas.
