Documentation
Chihuahua. August 6, 1779. 28p. Letter. Original. Signed. Copy. Dct December 4, 1746. Dcn August 6, 1779.
Summary
Concerning whether Santa Rosa or Linares should be the location of the cathedral of the new bishopric of Nuevo Leon. The evaluation consists of a discussion of the agriculture, mining and defense of both towns. Santa Rosa is favored because of the orderly town planning, its number of settlers and its favourable climate for the cultivation of cash crops. Mining is prosperous in Santa Rosa and the surrounding forests are rich in timber and wild animals. Strategically Santa Rosa is closer to Texas frontier and thus able to supply it. Mentions that Saltillo area is infested with Indians. Cavello's opinion not included. (R. Graham) (1979)
