Contains account of campaign near Rio Grande in response to reported sighting and theft of 300 cows. Contains description of pursuit. As a result of campaign, Emparan discovers 20 murdered soldiers. Provides description of terrain and scene of raid. Emparan informs virrey and requests he recommend pensions for widows to king. Virrey requests information assuring that men died defending themselves. Provides list of soldier's names and complete testimonies of six witnesses. Witness accounts contain lengthy, detailed descriptions of battle scene including position of cadavers, bullet fragments, clothing and arms. Accounts relate probable action of soldiers and assurance that although greatly outnumbered, none fled. Ugarte signs testimonies and certifies that proper paper for autos was unavailable; use of alternate paper required due to urgency of matter. (M. Dannemiller, February 1989)

Includes service records and testimonies from doctors certifying nature of wounds received. Many undetailed references to battles with rebels and americans, especially battle of Medina. Ugarte informs viceroy of vacant positions in Fronteras, San Eleceario, and compania Volante of Nueva Vizcaya. Viceroy appoints Carrasco, Barela, and Vidal. Ugarte also reports of Ysco request for retirement with full salary and title of captain; viceroy grants retirement with half salary and title of lieutenant. Ugarte send viceroy list of people requesting disability pensions; viceroy requests 3 copies of this list so one could be sent to king. Ugarte acknowledges receiving appointments for Juarez, Garcia, and retirement benefits for Garcia. (J. Tapia, July, 1987).

Ugarte informs Flores of vacant Alferez position in Santa Cruz. He also informs Tonaiz wishes to retire with some salary. Grants 200 annual pesos.
