Pineda informs Croix of Indian raids. Preparation to attack Indians in Nopalera. Anza kills female Sibubapa, takes male captive, recovers 80 horses, and reports small quantity of water in Nopalera. Sibubapas attack Yecora, killing 5 including one Spaniard. A Spaniard, Leron, accompanied group of drunken Indians. Indians raid Ostimuri; Rio Chico soldiers kill 5 of them, Taraumaras kill 3 more. Apaches take 90 horses from Visani. Altar soldiers kill 1 Seri, send 7 captives to Pitic. More than 100 Indians take 202 horses from Pitic. Friendly Pimas urged to fight Apaches; 27 Apaches are killed. Oliba and 60 soldiers patrol Cerro Prieto. Enemy Indians move away from Nopalera looking for water and cactus fruits. Urrea, Cancio and Elizondo ordered to strike rebel Indians from 3 different places. Indians steal horses from Guaymas. Fronteras' soldiers attack Indian in Cara Pintada, recovering 43 horses. Apaches attack soldiers in Saracachi, killing 1 black person, and take horses. Pineda informs Croix of priest's arrival from Querataro; he will provide horses and food. pertrechos de guerra and soldiers arrive at Guaymas. Summary
Documents deal with Indian attacks on presidios. Letter from Croix to Pineda outlining number of soldiers required from Mexico; requesting information on number of soldiers at presidios and number of friendly Indians who will participate against enemy Indians. Pineda informs Croix that Indians attacked oimurhi, took 50 horses, and in Cocoraqui took a woman; also informs that Salgado has spoken to some Indians about not joining unrestful ones; also mentions that previous letter was lost in Tequila. Croix orders Pineda to assign new captain to Terrenate, and discusses soldiers salaries. Pineda informs Croix that some Indians came to Belen requesting release of relatives, but refuses as this is only way of controlling them. Croix tells Pineda to be aware of small number of soldiers protecting fronteras. Pineda discusses necessity to form emergency companias volantes and money to finance it. 200 Seris and Pimas attacked Caborca, took horses, one child; soldiers from Altar unable to capture them. Pineda informs Croix of Indian raids near San Antonio and San Miguel, and creation of one compania provincial of 50 soldiers in San Joseph; Ansa, with 65 soldiers, attacked 400 Seris and Pimas in la Nopalera, recovered 77 horses and suffered no casualties. Croix laments human losses in Sonora, urges Pineda to pacify region. Pineda informs Croix of topographic characteristics of Cerro Prieto, and how lack of water often limits his campaigns against enemy Indians. (J. Tapia, June, 1987).

Orders from viceroy to comandante-general giving him command of auxiliary troops to stop Indian depredations. F.b256 is cover sheet accompanying letter. F. C002 is letter concerning payment of troops, followed by Series of autos regarding contents of various royal treasuries. Some autos contain tables of accounts from 1781-1782. Ff. C005-c008 is informe concerning findings of tribunal of accounts. Ff. C009-c010 is another informe listing contents of treasuries at Arispe and Chihuahua. Mention of use of funds for military expeditions. Ff. C005-c019 are correspondence between various officials regarding tribunal of accounts dated July 1783-November 1785. F. C020 is cover sheet accompanying consulta regarding transfers of money to Chihuahua for 1788. Ff. C021-c023 are letters concerning need for supplementary funds at treasuries. Ff. C024-c032 are tables of accounts from Durango, dating from 1773 to 1787 (written in 1787). Ff. C033-c036 is letter from Chihuahua concerning needs of royal treasury. F. C037 is another such letter. B134, b141, b148, b152-b158 are similar drafts. Ff. B142-b147 are tables of accounts, accompanied by extensive footnotes, summarizing plan general for utilization of royal funds throughout Provincias Internas, except for Californias. Table includes allocations of salary money for presidial troops, along with breakdown by ranks of companies of each presidio. Tables broken down by province. F. Summary
Summaries of activities of royal treasuries from 1783-1787, submitted in response to orders from viceroy. F.224 is table of accounts which accompanies informe on audit of accounts at treasuries at Durango, San Luis Potosi, Arispe, and Chihuahua. Mention of use of royal funds for payment of military expenses, and several references to a general plan for reduction of deficits in order to make such payments. Ff.239-241 are drafts of letters from viceroy to various officials regarding payments. Ff. 242-243 is table of annual accounts of treasury at Potosi dated 12 September 1789. F. B121 is similar table of predicted transactions for 1790 from Durango dated 14 October 1789. F. B123 is summary of total transactions for 1788 and deficits for treasuries at Durango, San Luis Potosi, Arispe, and Chihuahua filed by contaduria mayor and Audiencia de Cuentas. Ff. Communications from various authors to viceroy discussing payments of taxes into royal treasuries. Mentions use of royal funds for payment of presidial troops and officers. Several documents are Cuentas. Mention in several letters of shortage of funds in Arispe, measures taken to correct deficits. F.158 is table of annual payments to and from royal treasury at Chihuahua dated 8 may 1788. Mention of abuses in payment of taxes, need for uniform system of taxation; orders from viceroy to correct this. Ff.165-173 are drafts of letters from viceroy to several officials containing orders regarding payments of taxes. Some letters are unsigned receipts of payments. F. 216 is table of payments to and from royal treasury at Durango dated 16 October 1788. F. 218 is table of accounts from office of real hacienda at San Luis Potosi. Summary
Various documents regarding remission of contents of royal treasuries and taxes to Arispe in response to orders from comandante general. Mention of shortage of muleteers in Guadalajara to convey payment to Arispe. Mention of Nava's succession to comandancy general after Neve's death. Folios 29, 30 are manifests of contents of royal treasuries, payments to civil officials from September 1784. Includes informe notifying viceroy of Neve's death. Folios 38, 45, 46 mention use of tax money for military expeditions; folio 47 refers to formation of new company of presidial dragoons from Saltillo. folio 56 is partial list of payments received in Mexico dated 13 November 1784. folio 58 provides summary of contents of military treasury at Chihuahua and royal treasuries at Durango, Rosario, Guanajuato, and San Luis Potosi in response to orders from Mexico. Several autos from local officials regarding use of royal funds. Much anxiety and debate occurs as to dates and amounts of payments throughout. folio 76 is review of taxes on gunpowder and playing cards from 1781-1784. Mention of Rengel's succession to comandante general in 1784/1785. Mention of great drought and shortage of food for animals to transport money to Mexico. Mention of famine in Sombrerete in June 1785, in which wealthy estates were forced to post guards. folio 118 presents inventory of contents of royal treasury at Durango and payments to troops in Chihuahua dated 15 September 1785.folios 127-130 present tabular summary of annual revenues and payments from royal treasuries to officials, clergy, and military throughout Provincias Internas as of 20 August 1785.
